Proper Procedure Of Installing Travertine Pavers On Concrete

Travertine pavers are a kind of marble pavers that you can lay on concrete. There are a lot of pavers to use, however, travertine pavers are one of the most popular choices that match almost every color. You can lay travertine pavers mud-set (wet-set) on top of an enduring concrete surface likewise any other paver or tile products. Before starting the installation process, it is strongly recommended to pull out the pavers from the crates and then start arranging them in place. As you know travertine is a natural stone, it is strongly suggested to blend materials from the different pallets to achieve a smooth color transition from pallet to pallet.

Things You Will Need

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Concrete Patching Products
  • Shovel
  • Travertine Pavers
  • Mortar & Trowel
  • Gloves & Tile Saw

Step 1: Having The Concrete Ready

Before you start laying down your travertine pavers, it is important that you have your concrete ready for them. All loose pieces of concrete have to be swept off the concrete in order to make sure that it is completely smooth. Once done, bleach used for outdoors has to be applied to make sure that any mildew or mold is removed from the concrete.

Step 2: Patch All Holes That Are In The Concrete

All the small or large holes that are noticeable in the concrete have to be patched using a concrete patching product. These types of products are available at the local hardware store. One of the best things about the patching products is that they are better in comparison to the normal concrete. Patching products have a much better adhesion that bonds much better.

Step 3: Layout Dry To Make Your Design

Position your travertine pavers on the concrete & move the pieces around before deciding on a pattern. This, in turn, will help you to find out whether any of your travertine pavers have to be cut in order to fit into the concrete. Calculate & compute and mark the pavers in order to indicate where cuts will be needed.

Step 4: Preparing The Mortar

As you will be working outdoors, you need to mix your mortar in a place that will take hold of the entire bag. A wheelbarrow is one of the best items to use when it comes to mixing the mortar. Using the entire bag is good, due to the reason that it saves you trying to guess the amount of mortar you need for doing small sections.

Step 5: Spreading The Mortar

As soon as the mortar is mixed, spread it on the concrete, with the help of a trowel. When you spread the mortar onto the concrete, take hold of the trowel on a 45-degree angle and only spread sufficient amount of mortar for 2 to 4 travertine pavers.

Step 6: Placing The Full Travertine Pavers

When you are going to place the travertine pavers, use a smaller trowel in order to spread a small layer of mortar on the back edge in order to make sure that it joins to the travertine paver beside it. This will help make sure that the pavers have great adhesion to the concrete as well as mortar. Continue as long as all your full-piece pavers are down.

Step 7: Cutting The Travertine Pavers

After laying down all your whole travertine pavers, cut the ones needed to finish your design. Use a tile saw when it comes to cutting down the pavers on the marked line you placed on the tile earlier. As soon as you have cut all the pavers you need, then you are ready to lay them. The cut pavers are laid exactly the same way as the whole pavers having mortar on the back edge of the paver that will link to the travertine pavers beside it.
