How To Install Piano Hinge On Corner Cabinet: Steps And Items Needed To Install

Steps And Items Needed To Install Piano Hinge On Corner Cabinet

A set of paino hinged doors requires more strength than a single door hinged at a cabinet wall. If you want to install piano hinge on your corner cabinet, then you need to collect the given items before following all the steps to finish this task your self without wasting you precious time. Here are the item list and steps for this task:

Item List

  • Tape Measure & Marker, Fine-Tip
  • Flat File & Hacksaw
  • Flat File & Masking Tape, 1-Inch Wide
  • Drill Bit, 1/16-Inch & Drill
  • Wood Screws, 1/2-Inch & Phillips Screwdriver

Steps For This Process

Once you've collected all the useful items, now it's time to follow all the given steps:
  • First of all, measure the height of your corner cabinet opening at the hinge-mounting location by using a tape measure. Subtract 1/2 inch from your cabinet opening measurement to regulate the cut length for the hinge.
  • Now, you need to fold a piano hinge in half. Pull the tape measure and make sure to pull it along the piano hinge. Mark the cut length on the piano hinge by using a fine-tip marker. Hold the piano hinge securely with your one hand. Cut the piano hinge at the cut mark by using a hacksaw. Slide a flat-file across the cut edge to remove sharp burr left by the hacksaw.
  • On a steady surface make sure to set the two corner cabinet doors. Then stand each and every door on its side. Be sure that the edges to be paino hinged together are facing upward. Now, lean the edges together to form a 90-degree point or seam and similar to the shape of a tent.
  • Stretch a four-inch piece of masking tape crosswise across the center of your door seam. Put another piece of masking tape two inches from each end of your cabinet doors.
  • Now, re-position the doors so they are lying flat on your work surface. Make sure that the masking tape is facing upward. Pull your doors apart slenderly to make the tape taut.
  • On top of corner cabinet door seam make sure to set unfolded piano hinge. Center hinge on the doors before pushing the end of a pencil through with each predrilled hole in piano hinge flanges to mark the holes on the surface of your cabinet door. Now get rid of the hinge from the doors.
  • Now, secure a 1/16-inch drill bit into a drill machine. At each pencil mark drill 1/2 inch deep holes. Set back hinge onto the doors. Align the piano hinge holes with the holes drilled in the cabinet doors.
  • Secure both sides of your piano hinge to both corner cabinet doors by placing 1/2-inch screws through with each hinge & into the holes. Tight all the screws by using a screwdriver.
