Steps & Items Needed To Install Your Kitchen Island

The kitchen island is a type of countertop with attached cabinets that has enough space to install water taps and electrical wiring. Collect the required items first before going through all the steps:

Items & Materials Required

  • Tape Measure & Extension Cord
  • Impulse Finish Nailer & Pilot Drill Bit
  • Pencil & Table Saw
  • Cordless Drill & Framing Square
  • Safety Glasses & 1-3/4" Screws
  • Metal Table Legs & 1-3/4" Nails
  • 1x3" Matching Hardwood & 3/4" Plywood

Steps

After collecting all the required items and materials, now you need to follow the 4 given steps:
  1. First of all, you need to install Stone corbels in order to add support for the center kitchen island overhang. Now, use plywood having size 3/4" and cut it according to the width of your center kitchen island cabinets & according to the length which is needed to support your cabinet expansion.
  2. Again use plywood having the same size as above and cut to the width of the center island cabinets and to the length needed to support the formulate counter top expansion. Attach all the 2 sturdy metal legs to the far end of your plywood. Anchor the expansion to your cabinets by screwing through with the cabinet into the frame of the expansion by using 1-1/4" screws. Be sure that the screws inside your cabinet don't impede with the drawer slide mechanism.
  3. You need to take the help of someone to bring the huge 36" x96" island countertop. This appropriate piece weighed more than 400 pounds. Lift & rest the back of the big slab against the edge of your countertop. Lower your countertop over & onto the cabinet-extension top. Slide it into place & be sure the piece is centered with equal overhang on all 3 sides.
  4. Now, install the switches & dimmers, be sure to take an accurate count of switches, dimmers & receptacles.
