How To Install IKEA Cabinets: Steps To Install

Steps To Install IKEA Cabinets

The steps are mentioned below for the installation of the IKEA Cabinets:

Step 1: Planning Installation

  1. Check Utilities: The users need to check and identify the pipes and openings in the basement. During the installation of the sink in the cabinets the users need to make sure that there occurs no damage to the utilities and other openings in the basement.
  2. Install Suspension Rails: For the installation of suspension rails, the users can mark the lines on the wall by using a spirit level. The users need to leave a space of 32 3/16 inches from the bottom of base suspension rail and a space of 82 3/16 inches from the bottom of upper suspension rail.
  3. Mark Location Of Studs: Now the users need to find the location of the studs, if the users are unable to locate the studs then the users can use the stud finder for locating the studs. Mark the location of studs and insert the fasteners via studs to secure the cabinets.
  4. Draw Outline Of Cabinet On Wall: Then the users need to measure the dimensions of the cabinets with the help of measuring tape and need to draw an outline of the cabinets on the wall.

Step 2: Putting Up The Suspension Rails

  1. Cut The Rails: The users need to measure the length of the marked lines that were drawn earlier for the installation of suspension rails. Then users can cut the suspension rails according to the measured length by using a hacksaw.
  2. Fasten Base Rail: Now users need to insert the fasteners into the studs and then fix the base suspension rail securely so that base rail can hold the cabinet and prevent it from falling.
  3. Use Shims: If there occurs any gap between the wall and the rail, then the users can fill these gaps by inserting the shims into the void spaces comfortably.
  4. Check The Level Of Rail: Now the users need to check the level of the suspension rail with the help of spirit level. If the level is unbalanced then the users need to remove the rail and reinstall it.
  5. Repeat The Process: Then repeat the same procedure for installing the upper suspension rail.

Step 3: Fixing The Cabinets To The Walls

  1. Hang The Upper Corner Cabinet: The back of the cabinets should contain hooks. The users need to lift the upper corner cabinet and place the cabinet on the rails in such a way that the hooks are inserted into the rails and the cabinet hangs safely on the rail.
  2. Hang Remaining Upper Cabinets: Now place all the leftover upper cabinets on the suspension rail and hang them securely on the rail. Then users need to check the alignment of the cabinets and then tighten the screws. Screws are mounted on the backside of the cabinets; tighten them from the opening of the cabinets.
  3. Hang The Corner Base Cabinet: Now the users need to hang the base cabinet at the corner by placing the hooks of the cabinet on the rails.
  4. Hang The Remaining Base Cabinets: Now fix the remaining base cabinets by placing the hooks on the rails and securely fixing the cabinets. Then check the level of the cabinets and secure the cabinets. Screws are mounted at the backside of the base cabinets; tighten them by using a screwdriver.
