How To Install Carpet On Concrete: 10 Easy Steps

10 Easy Steps To Install Carpet On Concrete

If the user wants to install carpet on the concrete floor then they need to follow all the given 10 steps to install the
carpet. Here are the 10 easy steps:
  • First of all, measure your room in order to regulate how much material you will need for this process. Once you've determined the length & width, you can now multiply these numbers in order to arrive at the square footage.
  • Carpet is commonly sold in yards, but if you provide the distributor with square footage then they will transform this number into square yards.
  • As per your requirement, patch the concrete subfloor. While carpet & underlayment will be able to hide some flaws in the sagging, concrete, or bumpy areas may show through. To avert this, chip away bumps by using the hammer & chisel. Use a self-leveling compound in order to fill in any low spots as this will prepare the floor for successful carpet installation.
  • Make sure to place strips(tackless) around the required measurement of your room. The strips need to get installed 1/2" from the wall, with the tacks facing your wall. Place masonry screws into the strips every 6-8" on center in order to fasten them to the concrete. In order to cut the strips, you need to make use of tin snips.
  • Pour a bit of adhesive (underlayment) around the perimeter of your room. This will hold your carpet padding in place as you install it. The entire floor needs to be covered by padding but should not overlap. Tape the seams unneurotic using duct tape, but do not add flooring adhesive anyplace by the perimeter of your room.
  • Lay out the carpet & measure it to make it fit the room. You will need to cut the strips that are a few inches longer than the length of your room.
  • Use your utility knife & then cut from the back and make sure to cut in a straight, even line. Use an uninterrupted edge to guide you if indispensable.
  • Place your carpet into your room, butting the seams together & lining up the ends. Place seam tape, adhesive side up, under your carpet to connect the antithetical pieces. Use a steam iron to heat the tape & join the sections together.
  • Stretch your carpet as much as you can with your hands and then use a knee kicker in order to pull the corners into place. Start from one corner, hooking the knee kicker into the carpet. Use your knee to tap the knee kicker while pulling your carpet with your hands. Do this step until you are able to attach the corner of your carpet to the tackless strips. Repeat this process for all 4 corners.
  • Cut away any extra carpet piece around the perimeter of your room, or tuck it behind the tackless strips. Install baseboards or trim to cover this gap around the edge of your room.
