How To Install Blinds Outside Window Frame: Proper Procedure Of Installation

Proper Procedure Of Installation Of The Blinds Outside The Window Frame

In order to install window blinds on the wall outside the window frame, it will help to make the window look larger than the original size. Many window blinds come with a set of hanging brackets that give the two different hanging options. When measuring for the blinds, also include the casing around the window as well as for windowsill if applicable. The proper procedure for installing the blinds outside the window frame are as follows:
  1. Measurement: With the help of a measurement tape measure the outside width of the window frame. To find out the window’s center point divide the measurement in half. Make a mark on the wall exactly above the opening which will represent the center of the window. After that, measure the width of the headrail. Then again divide that measurement in half to get the center of the headrail and mark out the center point on the headrail.
  2. Line Up: The center mark on the headrail as well as on the wall line them up. Have a helping hand to hold the headrail with the wall while checking its position with the help of a level. Keep adjusting the headrail until the bubble, which is in the level’s glass tube, is in between the vertical lines. Trace down the tops as well as the ends of the headrail onto the wall. After that move the headrail away from the wall.
  3. Position The Mounting Brackets: Just outside the lines that are drawn representing the ends of the headrail position the mounting brackets. With a pencil, mark the bracket mounting holes on the wall.
  4. Electric Screwdriver: Take an electric screwdriver and attach a Phillips bit. In the open end of a zinc-plated hollow-wall anchor insert the tip of the bit. Screw-in an anchor in the wall at each of the marks that were made representing a mounting hole. The design on the anchor allows us to drive it through drywall as well as the wood studs. Line up the screw holes with the mounting brackets. With the help of the anchor, screws mount the brackets to the wall.
  5. Headrail: Slide-in the ends of the headrail exactly in the blind mounting brackets. Snap the headrail in the brackets. If applicable slide the valance clips on the headrail and then slide the valance in the clips.
