How To Install A Stair Handrail Using Rosette: Step By Step Process Of Installing A Handrail Using Rosette

Step By Step Process Of Installing A Stair Handrail Using Rosette

Rosette is a decorative piece of wood that secures the railing firmly to the wall, when a stair railing breaks off at a wall. You have to purchase a stair railing kit that comes with the rosette, a matching rail, a newel post, & the necessary mounting hardware. You have to be absolutely sure that the handrail sits level betwixt the newel post and the rosette, or at the time of installing the balusters afterward, they will not fit uniformly betwixt the handrail and the floor. Oak or pine rosettes can make your stairway look very attractive & elegant. The rosettes build up on the wall and the handrail brackets build-up to the rosettes. After you successfully install the rosettes and brackets, the handrail secures & affixes firmly to the upper legs of the brackets. Start by measuring and obtaining the rosettes, brackets, as well as handrails in a style that will be appropriate & suitable for your design preference.

Rosettes And Brackets

  1. Start At The Bottom: Start at the underside of the stairs. Discover the exact place or position of every other stud in the wall betwixt the lowest step and the landing at the uppermost part of the stairway. Calculate 34 inches from the surface of the corresponding steps and make bisecting marks at each stud mark.
  2. 1/4-inch Countersink Drill Bit: Place or fix a 1/4-inch countersink drill bit in a cordless drill. Then, drill a 1/4-inch-deep countersink at the middle of every oak or pine rosette. Fix a screw-tip attachment in the drill and secure each rosette by driving a 2-inch wood screw along the countersink at each set of bisecting marks on the wall.
  3. Handrail Bracket: Place a handrail bracket upright at a rosette having the flat base in opposition to the rosette and the topmost leg of the bracket at the topmost end of the bracket. Center the bracket from the uppermost to the lowermost part on the rosette. Fix the bracket with the help of a wood screw through each machined hole in the base of the bracket. Continue this and fix the remaining brackets at the rest of the rosettes.

Installing The Handrail

  1. Measure The Stairway: Calculate the stairway from the edge of the landing at the top end to the outer edge of the underside step, and then add 24 inches. Calculate and mark a piece of wood handrail to length.
  2. Cut The Rail: Put the wooden rail in a miter box and straighten & adjust the mark using the square-cut slot on the box. Trim the rail at the mark with the help of a fine-tooth handsaw. Smoothen both ends of the rail using a sanding block.
  3. Align The Wood Handrail: Place the wooden handrail on the bracket legs. Straighten & adjust it so 12 inches lengthen beyond the edge of the landing as well as the edge of the bottom step.
  4. Downward Pressure: Allow the downward pressure on the railing at the lowest bracket. Drive a 1 1/2-inch wood screw upward along every machined hole at the leg of the bracket as well as into the bottom of the handrail. Continue this at the rest of the brackets to complete the installation.
