How To Install A Countertop Between Two Walls: Proper Procedure Of Installing A Countertop Between Walls

Proper Procedure Of Installing A Countertop Between Two Walls

The countertops do not need to rely on the cabinets for support if it is only a few feet long. They can be easily secured to the wall. The proper procedure of installing a countertop between two walls is mentioned below:

Horizontal Braces

It is the best option to use the 2-by-4-inch studs to give the horizontal bracing for a countertop. They must be cut 2 inches shorter as compared to the width of the top. By using 2 by 4 it allows placing 2 screws vertically right on top of each other through the drywall in the horizontal stud, and in the vertical wall studs. The double screwing will help the top to never move, and also allows it to easily hit the stud while driving the nails down in the top & this is because the stud is 1 1/2 inches thick.

Vertical Braces

Only one vertical stud is used to support a countertop, but this is minimum, and must only be used in places where the countertop is required to hold any heavy amount of weight. Mostly, there are only one or two wall studs. After running the stud finder all along the wall to find one vertical stud, at the same time add a vertical brace. Screw-in a horizontal stud right to the wall for supporting the countertop, but measure as well as cut the vertical stud brace so that it will fit underneath the horizontal brace. Screw it with the wall stud. This will help to add adequate bracing to the countertop.

Install The Top

  • After leveling as well as screwing the horizontal brace with the wall, position the particleboard or the plywood on top of the cabinets.
  • It must fit flush on the top of cabinets. When sliding it against the wall, it must be across the open space as well as slide on the horizontal brace to fit tightly against the wall. Now hammer 1 1/2-inch nail from the top, in the horizontal brace. The laminates and the backsplash can now be added.
  • If attaching a countertop with the wall with no cabinets, then it is advisable to use the same bracing techniques from both of the sides. If in case the countertop fits tight all along the length of the wall, then position a horizontal stud to the length of the wall.
