Easy Steps To Fill The Space Around A Dishwasher

Kitchen appliances are the important elements when it comes to the kitchen area, but a poorly fitted dishwasher is unpleasant to look at and ugly that can leave the kitchen looking unfinished. Irrespective of finishing up a kitchen installation or just replacing a dishwasher, it is extremely important that the dishwasher look properly fitted in its space. Due to the reason that the size of cabinets and dishwashers can vary, filling the gaps betwixt the dishwasher and the cabinetry gives you the finished look that you desire.
  1. Calculate The Gap: First of all, calculate or estimate the gap on every side of the dishwasher with the dishwasher gathered in the space. With the help of a measuring tape, ascertain or establish the availability of the space on each side and how tall space is from the underside of the counter to the top of the toe kick. If space differs marginally in width, then you need to use the smallest measurement.
  2. Sanding: Trim a piece of 1/2-inch thick appearance-grade lumber with the help of a hand saw and the calculations that you established. Then, take hold of the board in the space to ascertain or establish if it adjusts properly. As soon as the wood fills the space without adjusting too firmly or leaving a gap bigger than 1/8-inch, then start sanding the cut edges with the help of a medium-grit sandpaper.
  3. Paint: Now, it is time to stain or paint each piece of wood in accordance with the wood or stain manufacturer’s instructions in order to match your existing cabinetry. Give the pieces at least 24 hours to dry completely.
  4. L-Bracket: Secure an L-bracket in the gap with the help of a screwdriver and wood screws. Take out the dishwasher and position the bracket 1 inch down from the underside of the counter, having one end of the L-bracket in opposition to the adjacent cabinetry and the face spanning through the gap. Place or fix the bracket 1/2 inch back from the anterior of the cabinet. Attach a second bracket 1 inch above the toe kick and another in the middle of the space.
  5. Secure Wood Panel: Secure & fix the wood panel to the face of the L-bracket with the help of 1/2-inch wood screws across the back of the wood. Repeat on the other side. Place or fix the dishwasher, including the plumbing as well as wiring, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Paintable Caulking: Cover the joint betwixt the panel and the existing cabinetry, if it is noticeable, with the help of caulking or wood putty colored in order to match your cabinets. Position a bead of paintable caulking all through the seam and smooth it with your finger. Paint if required to produce a seamless finish.
