How To Hem A Tablecloth: 2 Easy Methods Of Hemming A Tablecloth

2 Easy Methods Of Hemming A Tablecloth

A tablecloth will help to hide the storage under a small table, it can also add elegance to the dressing table. If you want to perform the hemming process on the tablecloth, you can do it very easily. Simply you need to go through the methods mentioned below carefully:

Method 1: Sew By Machine

  1. Measure the needed length from the one side of the table to the surface, all across the surface as well as down to the needed length from the other tableside. This measurement will help to represent the diameter of the cloth once finished. For the purpose of the cut width, divide the measurement the half and also add about 1/2 inch.
  2. Now it is time to fold up the cloth in half. Position this on the table but the folded side must be towards the user. From the folded edge, measure half-way mark and at the same time position a pin on the measurement. Towards the hem edge measure from the point, by cutting the width as well as a mark on the required length of the hem from the fabric's right side. Place a mark evenly spaced after every 2 inches. Place the end of the measurement tape right on the folded line of the pinned center. If working with a padded or with a pin-able surface, that time anchor the measuring tape with a stick pin.
  3. Flip the tablecloth from the other side and then repeat the process of the hem marking. Sew from all the sides of the tablecloth at about 1/4 inch exactly from the edge. On the surface of the fabric sew from the wrong side. Check the machine of the sewing manual as well as slightly increase the tension of the top thread. The right setting of the machine will make the edge to curl up slightly of the fabric. Sew from all around the cloth the other time at about 1/2 inch from exactly the edge.
  4. Flip up the hem towards the direction of the wrong side of the fabric from all along the 1/4-inch line. Also, make sure to press down the edge of that hem only. It is highly advisable not to use the iron on the 1/2-inch line. Again flip the hem from the 1/2-inch line as well as at the same time gently press down the folded hem. Hold the hem with a pin in place.
  5. Sew from all around the hem that is close with the 1/4-inch sewn line. On the pressing surface position the tablecloth, by keeping the right side on the surface as well as press the hem. Allow every section to become cool before replacing the tablecloth on the table.

Method 2: Serge And Sew

  1. In this method the first step is to mark down the hem exactly in the same way as done in the machine method, but here the point to note is to add the 1/4-inch in place of the 1/2 inch for the width cut.
  2. From all around the tablecloth, edge serge. On the surface with the right side start sewing.
  3. From the wrong side turn the serged edge as well as press the cloth from the right side.
  4. Attach the seam simply with sewing from all around the perimeter, keep 1/4 inch from the edge of the tablecloth. Sew from the right side on the surface of the serged edge from the underside. This is because the underside goes into the machine much faster as compared to the upper layer, sewing from the right side will help the fabric to ease in the flat hem.
