How To Hang Curtains Around Bed: Steps And Items Needed

Steps And Items Needed To Hang Curtains Around Bed

The roof design on primitive buildings did not do much to keep out the pests, so vertical posts on canopy beds were used to drape your curtains across the top of your posts & down each side. Over time, your curtains on the canopy bed began to be used more for privateness than for utility. Nowadays the draping curtains around your bed will easily add a touch drama to your room, but you don't have to buy a canopy bed to create these types of effect. You can easily hang your curtains from the ceiling to surround your bed with the help of soft drapes for a bit of romance. In order to hang curtains around your bed, you just need to collect the given items and follow the steps for this process.

Things You Will Need

  • Tape Measure & Curtain Rods
  • Ceiling-Mount Drapery Rod Brackets
  • Carpenter’s Level
  • Number Two Phillips Screwdriver Bit
  • Cordless Drill
  • Self-Tapping Zinc-Plated Hollow-Wall Anchors
  • Drapery Ring Clips
  • Curtain Rod Finials
  • Screwdriver

Steps For This Process

After collecting all the required items, now it's time to follow the given steps for this process:
  • First of all, you need to measure the width & length of your bed. Include your headboard and footboard in the measurements if applicable.
  • Next, buy the curtain rods to match your bed’s width & length measurements. You need a curtain rod for each side of your bed and one for the foot of your bed. The curtain rods can be slenderly wider and longer than your bed if you want a bit of space betwixt your curtains and your bed.
  • Next, buy the rod brackets(ceiling-mount drapery) to fit the curtain rods. The standard bed length can be betwixt 75 & 84 inches, so you have to purchase three-rod brackets for each side of your bed. For the king & queen size beds, you need to purchase three brackets for the width.
  • Next, simply placemarks on your ceiling where you want your curtain rods to hang on each side of your bed. Ask your assistant to hold the curtain rods against your ceiling. You also need to use a carpenter’s level to be sure that the curtain rods are straightforward and will also hang parallel to the length of your bed.
  • Now you have to mark the center of your curtain rod on your ceiling. Place a mark at each end of your curtain rod and ensure that the end marks are 4 inches from your rod ends.
  • Also check the distance betwixt each mounting point to be sure that they are equal distances aside. This will ensure that your curtain rods will hang straight. Now check the distance from your back wall to each mounting point to make sure that the brackets sit at the same points on each side of your bed.
  • Hold your rod brackets(ceiling mount drapery) against your ceiling at each mounting point. Also, mark your bracket mounting holes on your ceiling.
  • Now it's time to insert a number 2 Phillips screwdriver bit into your cordless drill chuck. Simply insert the end of your bit into the open end of the self-tapping zinc-plated hollow-wall anchor.
  • Simply screw the anchor into your ceiling. If you hit the ceiling joist then you need to push against your drill to screw the anchor into the ceiling joist.
  • Install half of your curtain or drapery ring clips onto your curtain rod. Slide the center bracket and then ring onto your curtain rod. Install the leftover half of your curtain or ring clips. Slide the end brackets onto your rod and install your rod finials onto the ends of your curtain rods.
  • Ask your assistant to hold your curtain rod against your ceiling. Use the screws which comes with the anchors to secure all the brackets to your ceiling.
  • Tighten all the setscrews on the side of your drapery rod brackets to keep your curtain rods from moving. Repeat this step to hang your rod on the opposite side of your bed.
  • Ask your assistant to hold your curtain rod betwixt the 2 mounted rods at the foot of your bed. Also, mark the mounting bracket locations as previously you did with the brackets on each side of your bed. Now you need to use the anchors and repeat this step to mount your curtain rod at the foot of your bed.
  • Finally hang curtains from the drapery ring clips if relevant.
