How To Hang Cabinets On Cinder Block Walls: Step By Step Process Of Hanging Cabinets On Cinder Block

A concrete block is regarded as one of the best & sturdy building materials, however, you can come across a slight design challenge when you personalize a space. Nevertheless, attaching pictures or any other stuff on a concrete block wall is not as daunting as it might look. If you have the right products or a little bit of creativity, hanging artwork without drilling into the wall can be performed without any difficulty. When it comes to cinder block walls, making things stick to the wall, though, can be a challenging task. Due to the reason that the cinder block is as hard as concrete, it is not that easy to nail or screw into it. The cinder block surface is porous, so the tape manages to pull away.

Step By Step Process Of Hanging Cabinets On Cinder Block Walls

It is possible to hang, more or less, any cabinet on cinder-block walls with the help of concrete inserts. This is generally easier when compared to hanging on stud walls, due to the reason that there is no need to locate and hit studs. But, without the wood of a stud to grip into as well as hold the bolts, the cabinets could pull and extract out of the wall. With the help of a concrete insert, a malleable metal anchor, the cabinet gets fixed to the wall securely and permanently. In order to hang cabinets on cinder block walls, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully & achieve the desired result of your work:
  1. Measurement: First of all, calculate as well as choose the location for the cabinet. Picture a line on the wall that represents the bottom of the cabinet. Calculate from the floor to the mark. Trim two, 2-by-4 props at the measurement with the help of a miter saw.
  2. Pick Up The Cabinet: Pick up the cabinet, but make sure to take assistance from someone, as the cabinet is a very heavy object. Position the cabinet on the wall with the help of the props and the assistant to take hold of it in place. Draw around the cabinet & at the same time the assistant is holding it in place.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill 4 holes in the cabinet 1 inch from each corner crossways. Drill completely along the back of the cabinet going into the cinder-block wall to a depth of 2 inches. In order to drill holes, you can use a drill/driver as well as a 1/4-inch concrete drill bit. There will be a solid 1-by-4 rail at the uppermost part of the cabinet that you are drilling through. At the bottom, there is generally a 1/4-inch hardboard back that you drill through.
  4. Pull Out The Props: Pull and extract the props and take down the cabinet to the floor. Strike one 5/16-by-2-inch concrete insert, using a hammer, into each one of the holes in the cinder block. With the help of a hammer, tap them in flush with the wall.
  5. Hold The Cabinet Against The Wall: Pick up the cabinet, taking assistance from someone, and position the props under it. Place or arrange it in a straight line with the tracing on the wall. Take hold of the cabinet against the wall with the help of an assistant.
  6. Place Lag Bolts: Finally, put down 1/4-by-3-inch lag bolts with washers in the holes at the uppermost part of the cabinet. Then, put down 1/4-by-2-inch lag bolts with washers in the holes at the underside of the cabinet. Drive the screws through the back of the cabinet, into the inserts with the help of a 3/8-inch socket and ratchet. Drive them tightly as well as comfortably in order to attach the cabinet to the cinder block wall before removing the props.
