Steps For This Process

  • First of all, you need to lay your headboard face-down on your floor. Choose 2-3 locations at the top of your headboard along with your wooden frame to install one side of your metal french cleats. Slightly mark the back of your headboard at the installation locations.
  • Now you need to measure from the top edge of your headboard to the installation points just to make sure that you have an equal distance betwixt the top of your french cleats & the top edge of your headboard. Use your torpedo level to ensure each french cleat is level on the back of your headboard.
  • Next you need to mark your french cleat's mounting holes on the back of your headboard. Now you need to use your power drill to drive wood screws through with the french cleat's mounting holes & into your headboard.
  • Ask 1-2 assistants to help position your headboard on your wall. Once you become satisfied with your headboard position, lightly trace the outline of the headboard onto your wall. Place your headboard back onto your floor.
  • Next you need to transfer your headboard's french cleat locations onto your wall. To do this, you just need to use your metal tape measure to regulate where your every french cleat installs on the back of your headboard. Simply draw a line on your wall gently where the bottom of your headboard french cleat will rest.
  • Place the other half of every french cleat against your wall down the line representing the bottom of your headboard cleat. Now you need to use a torpedo level to level each french cleat and then you also need to mark their mounting holes on your wall.
  • Now it’s time to attach your screwdriver bit to the end of your power drill and then you need to place a hollow-wall anchor(zinc-plated self-tapping) on the top of your screwdriver bit.
  • After that, drive your self-tapping anchor into your wall at each mounting hole marked on your wall. The self-tapping anchor design lets you install them through with your wallboard as well as wooden studs.
  • Line up your french cleat's mounting holes with the help of screw holes in your tapping anchors. Use your screws that came with the help of your self-tapping anchors to secure the french cleats to your wall.
  • Ask an assistant to help lift the headboard and lower it onto the other half of your french cleats. Use your headboard outline which you drew on your wall to help line up the french cleats. After following all the steps now you are finished with your work.
