Whether you are adding shadowboxes below your wainscotting or above the fireplace, it is best to glue your trim to an unpainted service if accomplishable. If the wall is freshly painted and you think that it will be scratched then you can simply glue your trim to the painted wall. If you want to glue the already painted wood then you just need some required items and follow all the given steps. Collect all the items and start your work without wasting your precious time. Here are the item list and steps for this process:

Things You Will Need

  1. Measuring Tape
  2. Painter's Tape
  3. Sandpaper
  4. Construction Adhesive Or Wood Glue

Steps For This Process

  1. First of all, you need to measure the trim width before you start trimming on your painted walls with the help of a painter's tape. Tape all the edges both inside as well as outside edges, leave the width of your trim open betwixt the tape lines.
  2. Next you need to sand the applied paint betwixt the tape lines to loosen the bond betwixt the paint and your wall. The paint covers the permeable surface, making it hard for the wood glue to stick it well. Sanding your paint roughens the surface and then allows some of the permeable wall to show through.
  3. Then you need to squeeze the wood glue or manufacture adhesive in a zigzag pattern along the back of the trim. Press it in place and then hold it thoroughly for at least 3 minutes.
  4. This is your final step for this process, you need to remove the applied painter's tape lines and then apply the painter's tape tightly across your trim to hold it to your wall as it dries. Next, allow it to dry for a whole night before eliminating the tape.

Tip

In order to get a more secure hold then you need to hammer 2 or 3 accomplish nails on each piece of your trim. Countersink the nails by tapping them lightly with another nail & the hammer. You need to fill in the recesses with the help of wood putty and then sand them and finally touch up the paint.
