Steps

Once you've collected all the given items then you need to follow the given steps to finish you work:
  1. Start your work with cleaning the scratched affected area on your Formica counter top. You need to use an non-abrasive cleaner & a soft cloth in order to prevent scratching the surface, further remove any dirt or debris that may be within the scratch to allow the filler to bond more entirely. Dry the Formica exhaustively.
  2. Next, rub a small amount of car wax or counter top polish into the lighter, more shallow scratches on your Formica counter top. Work the car wax or polish into the Formica with a soft cloth by using a circular motion. Continue buffing the scratched affected area with the cloth until the car wax or polish has filled & hidden the scratches from your counter top.
  3. Once done, now fill deeper or larger scratches with Formica or laminate filler in a color which matches the color of your Formica counter top.
  4. Next, soak a clean cloth in the solvent which comes with the filler & rub the solvent into the scratch on the Formica counter top surface. Forthwith scoop up some of the filler onto the end of your putty knife and then apply it to the scratch. Press this filler into the scratch with your putty knife, scraping your knife softly across the surface of your counter top to work the filler into the Formica counter top.
  5. Finally, rub the solvent soaked cloth across the surface your Formica counter top to remove any extra filler. Allow the filler to dry for almost 1 hour and then inspect the scratch. If the filler has shrunk as it dried, repeat the procedure until the counter top is repaired.
  6. Tip: A coat of car wax can improve the overall look of a worn Formica laminate counter top.
