How To Fold A Futon Mattress: Folding Bi-Fold & Tri-Fold Futon Mattresses

Folding Bi-fold & Tri-fold Futon Mattresses

Futons are considered one of the great ways when it comes to space saving while you are able to convert your bed into a couch and vice versa. Futons are categorized into two types: Bi-fold & Tri-fold futons. Bi-fold futons are the most common & popular futon type where the mattress is folded in half lengthwise & can be easily folded by moving or altering the seat and back sections to achieve the desired fit, appearance, or result. Trifold futons are a bit complicated, due to the fact that they have 3 sections, however, they provide you with more options when it comes to folding your futon.

Folding Bi-fold Futons

  • Lift The Top Section Of A Bi-fold Futon: When you are sitting on your futon, you will usually rest your back with the top section of your futon. Take hold of the top of the frame before pulling it up delicately & softly as long as it clicks into place. A very few bi-fold futons may have unique options when it comes to seat adjustment, which will help make it easy to lock them in place, exactly the same way as you would a chaise lounge.
  • Push Down On The Bi-fold’s Seat Section: If you are looking for a smoother transition, then the best way to push down on bi-fold's seat section is while you are also pulling up on the top section. By pushing down on the seat section when you are uplifting on the back section, you will change the futon into a couch. Make sure the futon is locked in place before you sit down, you can do this by giving it a shake as soon as you think it is in place to see if it moves at all.
  • Get The Futon Back Into Its Lounge Position Against A Wall: If you need your futon to be pulled away from a wall or furniture to be in the bed position, then you can push it back in opposition to a wall or move it to another location. Readjust the mattress, as required.

Folding Trifold Futons

  • Move The Underside Section Of A Trifold Futon To Your Suitable Placement: You can either tuck the tri-fold’s third section back up beneath the middle section in order to hide it away, or you can just tuck in the legs of the third section in order to make sure that the section angles downwards. By only tucking in the legs, you will still have three sections of the futon out, however, they will be in more of a ‘Z’ formation, having the third section acting as an ottoman. If you tuck in the third section all the way, you will be left with 2 sections, one for resting your back and another for sitting.
  • Pull The Top Section Of The Trifold Futon Up: Top section of the tri-fold futon is where your back will rest. Pull it up as long as it is in the desired seating position, before locking it into place. Some trifold futons will have options when it comes to knowing how far up you would like to position your seat. If this is the case, lock in your seat with the help of the height adjustments. Give the futon a small shake in order to make sure that the seat adjustments and legs are all stable.
  • Adjust The Mattress Or Padding, If Necessary: Position the padding in such a way that it is centered on the futon, ensuring that none of it is falling over the edges. As soon as you are fully satisfied with the padding, it is ready to be used.
