5 Easy Ways Of Fixing The Window Shades

The roller shades are the fabric or the vinyl covering of the window affixed on the roller that specifically uses the spring mechanism in order to hike or bring down the shade. If the shades are used often then the spring mechanism that it contains can wear out or may stop working. The users are advised that before replacing their window shades they need to know how to fix up the small problems that can help them in saving their money. If the shades consist of the minute repairs then they can be easily done by the simple techniques of adjustment and that too by using the household tools. Here are some of the ways by which the users can fix up their window shades:

Adjusting Spring Tension

The window shades at certain times roll up quicker than the normal position and at times it ends up with the bang. At certain times the window shades roll up very easily and slowly then the spring tension present within the roller needs to adjust. The spring that is over-constricted will let the window shade to roll up very fastly and when the spring is very loose it lets the window shade to roll up very slowly. In order to loosen the over-constricted shade, the users need to detach the roller within the brackets that are holding it up in the place. They need to hand-operated unroll the window shade and then position it back within the bracket. The users need to examine the tension and then repeat the same procedure if required until the window shade will not work normally. To fasten the spring within the shade they need to lift up the shade downwards and then detach the roller within its brackets. They need to physically roll up the window shade and then replace it within its brackets. The users need to repeat the procedure until the window shades won't roll and then unroll regularly.

Uncoiled Or Locked Springs

If in case the window shade is stuck in its lowered posture and it is not raising then there might be the chance that the spring is entirely uncoiled. In order to fix up this problem, the users need to pull the roller outwards from its brackets and then unroll the window shade. The one roller end is having the round pin and the other roller end is having the flat pin. The users need to rotate the flat pin by using plies and stop rotating it once they will feel the resistance. If in case the spring of the shade is too fastened or unfastened then they need to repeat the procedure to attain the minor adjustments of the spring. If in case the window shade cannot be pulled downwards then there might be a possibility that the spring is locked within the coil. In order to release the shade spring then they need to detach the roller within its brackets. They can also use the pliers so as to twist down the pin in the clockwise direction so as to free up the pawl and then liberate it fastly so that the coil is unwinded. If required the users can also adjust up the tension of the spring.

Shades That Won’t Stay Down

If the ratchet that is present within the roller of the shade won't get locked up then the window shade will not stay perfectly in the downward place. In order to lock the ratchet, the users need to detach the roller within its brackets and then detach its metal caps in the end as well. The users need to use the soft brush so as to detach the dust and the debris particles within the ratchet and the pawl. They can also lubricate it by using the oil and then replace down the cap and then place back the roller within its brackets so as to examine the tension of the spring.

Shades That Fall

If in case the users are having the problem with their window shades that eventually fall downwards when they try to lift it upwards then there might be a problem that the brackets are far or the pin is worn down. If in case the brackets are affixed on the outer frame of the window then they need to tap it down slowly by using the hammer or they can also try moving the one bracket close in. If in case the brackets are affixed on the inner frame of the window then they need to trim the cardboard piece and then unfasten the bracket and then place the shim of the cardboard at the back of it before fastening it. If required the users can also add the two more shims on each side and in the case to replace the worn pin the users need to lift the pin outwards by using the pliers. Then use the hammer so as to tap down the nail within the hole of the pin and leave near about half-inch projected outwards. Then trim the head of the nail by using the pliers and then replace down the roller within the bracket.

Shades That Stick

If in case the brackets are very close to one another and then make it very hard to bind and unbind the shade. If in case the brackets are affixed on the outer frame of the window then they need to gently tape down the brackets outwards by using the hammer or they can also move it little out if required. If in case tapping it down does not work then they need to detach the roller and the metal cap as well. Then sand down the roller end by using the fine-grit sandpaper. If in case the users find out that the problem still persists then they need to replace it by using the small-sized shade.
