How To Fix Vertical Blinds That Won't Rotate: 3 Easy Steps To Fix Vertical Blinds

3 Easy Steps To Fix Vertical Blinds That Won't Rotate

Your vertical blinds occasionally get stuck, bent, or damaged. Easy troubleshooting often fixes your minor problems such as the backward or crooked blind. Nevertheless, if you are not able to find a recognizable cause like a backward blind or something similar to this, then you need to change your blind or your carrier stem altogether. In order to fix the rotating problem then you just need to collect all the given items and follow all the given steps:

Things You Will Need

  • Lubricant Spray
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Replacement Blinds
  • Replacement Carrier Stems

Step 1: Check Basic Problems

  1. Adjust vertical blinds that won't rotate. If your vertical blinds aren't rotating properly, or if 1 or 2 blinds won't close properly, this is occasionally a simple fix. Check each of your blinds independently. It's likely that one or two blinds are backward & simply need to be contorted into the right position.
  2. Patch up any hole with a repair kit. In some cases, your blind will develop a hole at the ends of it and this will cause multiple problems for you, from your blind falling out to your blinds not rotating easily. To fix this you need to buy a cheap blind repair kit & simply place adhesive tape over any holes.
  3. Remove the items that are jamming your blinds. If your blinds won't rotate properly & there doesn't seem to be backward blinds & overlapping, check all the slots where your blinds are attached to the carrier stem.
  4. You need to use lubricant spray to fix the rotation problem. If your blinds won't rotate because the rod is not rotating properly then it just needs some lubrication. WD-40 is best for this type of work.

Step 2: Replace Blind

  1. Disconnect the spacer chain if needed. Some types of blinds are connected by a spacer chain that is running along the bottom betwixt each blind. The chain runs through a plastic loop at the end of each blind. In this case, you need to detach your blinds from the spacer chain before removing them from its hook.
  2. Locate the clip that is securing the chain at the end and twist it off with your fingers. Feed the chain outward from the loop at the bottom of your blind you're removing, disconnecting other blinds from the chain until your problem blind is detached.
  3. Lift your blind off the hook. Blinds on hooks are the easiest to remove. Open the blinds & then simply raise the problem blind upwards off the hook. Bend your blind marginally to detach it from the hook & then lift your blind off the poll altogether.
  4. Attach a replacement blind to the hook. Once the blind is removed, take your replacement of your blind. Point the blind's curve in the same direction as your other blinds. Hold onto the blind near its top. Maneuver the vane back into the hook by lifting your blind, twisting it over the hook, and pressing it down gently to secure.
  5. Next you need to reattach your blind to its spacer chain. If you have a spacer chain in your vertical blinds then you will need to reattach your new vertical blind here as well. Thread the chain through the holes at the end of each blind. Thread it back through with any blinds that were disconnected before. Keep feeding the chain through your blinds until you reach the end of it. Finally, you need to reattach the clip which is securing the chain simply by screwing it back on with the help of your fingers.

Step 3: Replace Carrier Stem

  1. If you need to change your stem then the first thing is to open your blinds. You can't change the stem if your blinds are not opened properly.
  2. Remove your blind that is attached to your carrier stem. Unhook the blind from the dispute stem. If you have a spacer chain then you need to remove your blind from the spacer chain.
  3. Grab your carrier body with the help of needle-nose pliers. Your carrier stem is a small parallelogram-shaped piece of plastic clamped around the top of your blind. Your stem is attached to the poll by a small piece of plastic which are found on the poll just to the right side of your stem.
  4. This thing is known as the carrier body. Clamp a pair of pliers around your carrier body. Get close as much as possible to the body without touching your stem.
  5. The poll & blades are attached to the hollow inside. This carrier body found inside the poll, pressed against right side.
  6. Use your hand to mildly twist your stem away from your carrier body, holding your body still with the pliers. As you twist, pull your stem down until it disengages from your carrier body.
  7. It is very important to get the exact right size & match for your old carrier stem because any different stem will not attach properly to the blinds.
  8. You need to buy a new stem from an online store or from your nearby hardware store. Insert the new stem as inserting your stem is a lot easier than removing it. Your stem should have a knob that fits into a hole in your carrier body. Simply push your stem into your carrier body until it slides into your hole. Then you can push your blade back through with your stem.
