Steps To Fix/Repair Veneer That Is Lifting

The veneer on the wooden furniture can result in the chipping or cracking due to the continuous exposure to the moisture. The moisture can soften the glue that holds the veneer that results in lifting. However, the lifting veneer can be fixed using basic methods some of them are mentioned below.

The Steps To Follow In Order To Fix/repair The Lifting Veneer Are As Follows

  1. Lift: First of all carefully lift the veneer and then glue on the back side of the veneer and on the base wood also with the help of the razor blade or knife.
  2. Clean: Then clean both the surfaces with a solvent like benzene, in order to remove all the glue residue.
  3. Sand: With the help of the fine grit paper finely sand the back of the veneer, and base wood, once the sanding is completed then clean the surface with the mineral spirit.
  4. Glue: Now apply the best quality wood glue in between the veneer and the base wood, and carefully fix the veneer to the area, and wipe the excess glue with the help of the damp clean cloth, cover the affected area with the sheet of the wax paper.
  5. Clamp: Clamp the affected area very tightly if the clamp is not possible then apply enough weight on the affected area, and allow it to dry for almost 2 days, At last wax or polish the affected area.
