The steps to fix the uneven/blotchy stains on the Hardwood Floors are mentioned below:
  1. Mineral Spirits Or Acetone: First of all, wipe all the dark areas with the mineral spirits or acetone, so that all the stains are lifted from the wood, in case the floor has the polyurethane top coat and then lightly sand the area.
  2. Stain: Now dip the sponge in the stain, then apply the stain to the floor as fast as possible, and then wipe the stain off as quickly as possible with a soft, dry cloth. After that Let the stain dry for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Acetone: In case the floor still looks uneven, then apply the layer of the acetone with the help of the soft cloth, always focus on the darker areas, carefully blend edges of uneven areas into lighter areas, leave the stain for about 30 minutes.
  4. Wipe: At last wipe the area again with an acetone dampened cloth, in case there is still uneven colors.
