  • Hacksaw, Staple Gun, 3/8-by-3/8-Inch Staples & 1 1/4-Inch Brads

Steps

Once you've collected all the required items, now you need to follow the given steps to fix sofa armrest:
  1. Insert: The thin piece of plywood, which is stapled & wrapped, with a fabric called filet, need to insert a screwdriver behind the filet on the front of the arm of your sofa. It follows the contour of the armrest of the sofa. Pry the filet loose & remove it. Pull out the nails by using diagonal pliers.
  2. Remove: Next, you need to get rid of staples securing fabric on the front of armrest by simply using a staple puller. The front of the armrest is the point where accumulated ends of fabric come together.
  3. Peel The Fabric: Now you have to peel the fabric back in order to make foam of your sofa exposed. Peel off foam from the back to expose the batting. Peel the batting back in order to make the wooden arm of your sofa exposed. If the materials are headstrong & won't pull back, look for additional staples & remove them.
  4. Tighten: Next, tighten visible bolts on the armrest by using a ratchet & socket. Also, tighten visible screws by taking the help of a drill/driver. If you can't see the problem then you have to locate the split or crack by applying enough pressure to the armrest with your hand.
  5. Screwdriver: Grab screwdriver and insert the dip of it in loose joints, cracks, & splits & pry them open. Now you need to apply the wood glue to the crack. Smear it into the crack by taking the help of your fingertip until supersaturated. Now, place clamps across the armrest.
  6. Drill: After following all the previous steps, drill through the split or crack using a driver/drill with a 3/8-inch bit. If the crack is more than 3 inches long, drill 2 holes. Drill holes in horizontal to the cracks. Once done, now take your glue and fill it in the holes. Use a hammer to tap 3-by-3/8-inch dowels into the holes to infiltrate both sides. Allow the glue to dry for at least 1 complete hour.
  7. Remove The Clamps: Remove the clamps before cutting the ends of dowels off flush with the use of a hacksaw. Pull the batting & foam back into place. If it won't stay put, staple the edges by using a staple gun with staples that have a 3/8-inch crown with 3/8-inch legs.
  8. Stretch: Now, the fabric needs to be stretch back into place on the front of the armrest. Pull all the corners & edges together and staple them tight.
  9. Final Step: Your final step is to place filet back. Hammer 1 1/4-inch brads through with the front of the filet. Fluff the entry point of the nails with your fingernail.
