How To Fix Separations In Plywood: 5 Easy Steps To Repair Plywood Separations

5 Easy Steps To Repair Plywood Separations

The main reason for the plywood separation is due to the fact that the glue taking hold of the layers together is not adequately spread during the manufacturing process. Generally, the separation is not visible to you as long as you cut into it. The separations, also known by the name blows, appears exactly like air pockets on the side of the plywood. Blows wear out the plywood significantly or make it useless completely. However, if you fix separations first, then the plywood can still be used as already planned, the only things that you need include glue and clamps. In order to fix the plywood separations, simply go through the below-mentioned simply steps carefully and achieve the desired result of your work:
  1. Lay The Plywood: First of all, put down the separated plywood gently or carefully from one side to the other of two sawhorses. Examine the edge and discover all of the separations.
  2. Insert Putty Knife: The next step is to place, fit, or push the head of a putty knife into the separation. Make sure to push it in as far as it will go into the separation without forcing it. With the help of the head of a glue bottle, put or spread the glue into the separation, tipping the putty knife with one side facing forward to open it as far as possible. Move the putty knife smoothly to one side if possible and spread glue where the putty knife was.
  3. Pull Out The Putty Knife: Now, withdraw the putty knife from the separation. Spread a bead of glue through the crack with the help of a glue bottle. Use the tip of your finger in order to force as much of the glue into the crack as you possibly can.
  4. Place A Clamp: After that, put in a clamp every 2 inches on the plywood edge opposite to the separation in order to compress the crack together as long as the glue seeps out the length of the crack. Wait at least one hour before taking out the clamps.
  5. Remove Residual Glue: Finally, it is time to remove any residual glue from the plywood edge with the help of a glue scraper before using it normally again.

Plywood separation, also called as delamination, has various layers, which in turn makes plywood vulnerable to delamination, otherwise you need to take good care of manufacturing processes. Some of the most common causes of plywood separation includes plywood anatomy, glue problems, voids, mistreatment, fasteners & paper-thin separations. Work on all these issues carefully in order to prevent separation or delamination in plywood.
