How To Fix Blinds That Won't Go Up: Two Easy Methods

Two Easy Methods To Fix Blinds That Won't Go Up

The main benefit of your blinds is that you have the flexibility to turn your blinds so you can see through with them. You can also close them or you can also pull your blinds up to the top of your window, exposing your entire window to view. If your blinds are open and turning your tilting rod will not change your blinds from open to the closed position, it's likely that your tilting rod has come loose on the inside of your blinds. If your blinds are stuck at the lower position then don't worry because here are the 2 easy methods that will help them to go up again. You just need to grab a screwdriver with you while working with the blinds. Read and follow all the two easy methods carefully to fix this problem.

Method 1: Open Slats

  1. First of all, remove all the valance from the top of your blinds. This is ordinarily held on with the help of plastic clips & should pop free easily. Tug on each end of the blinds to release the valance.
  2. Next you need to lift the top of your blind mechanism from its brackets and then lay it on your table but you need to be careful not to get any slats or the cords tangled or broken while you move your blinds.
  3. Now you need to pull the end cap off the side of your blinds closest to the tilting rod. This is the tilting rod you can turn to open & close the slats on the blinds.
  4. After that, you need to look inside and then locate the tilting mechanism. The tilting mechanism is a type of metal rod that runs the length of your blinds. Push up on your tilting rod from the outside of your blinds until you see that it is connected with your interior tilting mechanism.
  5. Finally you need to push the end cap back in place and hang your blinds in the brackets. Replace the valance by pushing on each end until it pops back into place.

Method 2: Fix Stuck Blinds

  1. Simply remove your valance and take your blinds off the blinds brackets. Lay your blinds on your table.
  2. Next you need to pull off the end cap closest to that string which raises and lowers your blinds. Look inside and find the gears that grip the blinds cords, holding your blinds in your chosen position.
  3. Now you need to squirt 3-4 drops of oil into the blind gear or spray it with the help of a spray lubricant. Open and close the gear by pushing on it mildly with the help of a flat-head screwdriver because this will move the sprayed lubricant throughout the gear.
  4. Next you have to hold your blinds up and then pull the blinds cords to be sure that the gear is now working correctly. If it is not working properly then you need to add a few more drops of oil and then try it again.
  5. Finally, place your blinds back in its brackets and then push the valance in the actual place. Pull the cords toward the inside of your blinds in order to release the gears and then allow your blinds to lower to your window sill to close them. Now its time to release the cords.

Tips For This Process

  1. Tip 1: If you see that the tilting rod is attached to the mechanism of the blind but still doesn't work properly then you need to replace your blinds. Also, if you lubricate the gears of your blinds and still won't lower then you also need to replace the whole gear assembly.
  2. Tip 2: Some end caps of your blinds are held in place with the help of small screws. You need to unscrew them to remove the blinds end cap and then secure the cap with the help of screws when you've finished your repairing process.
