How To Fix A Wobbly Bed Frame: Step By Step Guide Of Stabilizing Wobbling Bed Frame

Step By Step Guide Of Stabilizing The Wobbling Bed Frame

If your bed frame has a wobbly issue then this will make you very difficult to sleep and also creates a potential safety hazard. Usually, the wobbling can result from the loose bolts or from the separating joints. Stabilizing a wobbling bed frame involves checking the frame as well as the floor area to determine the proper reason for the wobbling. The step by step guide for stabilizing the wobbling bed frame are as follows:
  1. Remove: Start the process by removing the mattress, box spring as well as the padding from the bed frame and set them aside.
  2. Tight All The Bolts: If there are any bolts that are holding the bed frame together then tighten them with the help of a wrench or a screwdriver. Mostly a bed frame will start to wobble because of the reason of loose hardware as a result not holding the rails together.
  3. Non-glued Bed Frame: Rejoin any of the joints on a wooden bed frame that are separating. Separating joints can easily make the wooden bed frame to shift, creating wobbly motion. For the non-glued bed frame, rejoin it with the help of one or more people to hold the frame. Lay down the cloths on both sides of the first joint as this will help to protect the wood from the rubber marks and then gently with the help of a mallet to hammer the joint together gently. Repeat the same process on the other side of the joints.
  4. Glued Frame: The frames that are previously glued, rejoin them by simply applying glue inside of the first separated joint. Again lay down cloths on both sides of the joint and then gently tap the joint together with the help of a rubber mallet. Clampdown the area to properly secure it while drying. Repeat the same process for any of the other separated joints.
  5. Measure: In this step the user needs to measure down the length of all the legs of the bed frame with the help of a measuring tape as this will help to determine whether all of the legs are of the same length or not. If in case they are not, the frame can easily become uneven. Also, look for the slope of the floor using a carpenter's level, this is because the leg on an uneven slope can also result in wobbling. In either of the case's, adjust the length of the legs or if possible replace the legs with the new ones that will level the bed frame.
  6. Rope-style Mattress: If the user has rope-style mattress support on the bed frame and if it is loose then re-rope it with the help of one or more people. Check all the pegs as well as the joint areas, hammer them together if in case they began to separate the pegs and the joints both give the primary support for the frame. The ropes that are used on this style of the bed frame also help in securing the shape of the frame. If the ropes are loosened, the pegs, as well as the joints, will separate easily, resulting not only in a wobbling of the wooden frame but will also pull it apart completely.
