How To Fix A Squeaky Chair?

The steps to fix a Squeaky office desk chair are as follows:
  1. Check The Hardware:
    First, the user needs to turn the chair upside down and check all its hardware. He needs to get a wrench or a screwdriver and tighten all screws.
  2. Greasing:
    The second step will be to grease all the bolts, nuts & screws so that the joints will loosen up. The user can simply spray lubricate oil directly on to the mechanism. He can then pat the oil to dry up or else he can use the oil on the cotton cloth and rub it on to the problematic areas. applying oil on a regular basis prevents the hardware from rusting.
  3. Removing Hardware:
    If the chair still squeaks after greasing, the user needs to take out all nuts, bolts & screws. He then needs to lubricate them using machine oil before installing them back on to the chair.
  4. Fixing Chair Springs:
    Sometimes the chair may squeak due to too much tension caused by the rubbing of housing ends and spring's ends. In order to fix the issue, the user needs to apply oil on to the tension spring located inside the turn-knob housing. The oil can be sprayed to the housing by removing the turn-knob for which seat tension has to be loosened up.

The Wooden Chair can Squeak due to the loosening of its joints and the steps to fix the issue are as follows:
  1. Inspection:
    The first step will be to inspect the chair and see how loose are the legs & back of the chair. He can push them in order to see the movement back & forth. No movement indicates the chair doesn't squeak.
  2. Position The Chair Upside Down:
    Then the user needs to position the chair upwards down or a table or another chair in order to work on the problematic areas.
  3. Gluing:
    The third step will be to apply wood glue inside all the loose joints and let the glue dry completely. The user needs to wipe out any access glue that flows out of the loose joint with a wet rag.
  4. Use Wood Swelling Liquids:
    All those legs which require more than gluing needs to be removed from the chair. After which the user needs to apply wood swelling liquids on to the dowel. By applying wood swelling liquids on to the dowel makes it secure in the chair.
  5. Replacing Hardware:
    The user can also replace the hardware of the chair if he feels the old ones are loose. There is also an option of leaving the old hardware as it is and add new brackets & hinges on to the chair in order to make the chair sturdy.


How To Fix A Squeaky Rocking Chair?

The steps to stop a Rocking Chair from Squeaking are as follows:
  1. Identification:
    The first step will always be to identify the source of noise because without knowing the actual reason for the noise, it is not possible to fix it up. Mostly, the squeak occurs from the joint that is between the curved rockers and the wooden rods that fit inside the holes on top of the curved rockers.
  2. Tightening Of Loose Parts:
    The user needs to put chair upside down and tighten all the screws with a screwdriver and for bolts, he can use a wrench. For loose dowels, the user can apply wood glue into the joints and remove excess glue with a damp cloth.
  3. Lubrication:
    The noise from joints can also be fixed by lubricating non-stick cooking oil on to it. Also, the user can try some melted candle wax inside joints to stop the chair from squeaking. In Case the issue is not solved, the user can apply Murphy's oil soap with a cloth on a squeaky area and for hinges and other metal parts, he can use the spray of WD-40.

Note: If the spring underneath the spring is making a noise, the user can lubricate it the same way as mentioned above.
