How To Fix A Sinking Office Chair: Steps

Almost all the Office chairs use a pneumatic cylinder which controls the height of the chair through the pressurized air. But the cylinder on most of these chairs fails within a few years or even in months, this is because the seals are too damaged to maintain the pressure of the user.

What Are The Steps To Fix A Sinking Office Chair?

  1. Slide The Plastic Skirt Off The Cylinder: Most of office chairs have an extendable cylinder under the plastic tube. The user needs to Slide this all the way or down until the metal cylinder underneath can be seen.
  2. Set The Chair To The Preferred Height: After this repairing method the user will not be able to adjust the height of the chair, so set the chair at the right position.
  3. Wrap A Hose Clamp Around The Cylinder: The user can buy the hose cap from any hardware store. Then Wrap the hose clamp around the metal cylinder, but do not tighten it yet.
  4. Improve The Grip Of The Clamp: The clamp should be very tight to hold chair up, in order to give the better grip use the strip of rubber or a couple of layers of duct tape and wrap it around the cylinder.
  5. Tighten The Clamp As Far As Possible: Pull the hose clamp as tight as possible and fasten it by rotating the screws.
