How To Fix A Sagging Mattress With Plywood: Procedure To Fix

Procedure To Fix A Sagging Mattress With Plywood

Sagging refers to bulging downwards due to pressure, weight, or lack of strength. The mattress is said to be sagging when it starts to bulge downwards due to any reason. There are several reasons by which the mattress can sag such as the mattress is of poor quality, the spring box of mattress is damaged, the mattress is not maintained well, the user sleeps on the same spot repeatedly, or any other unknown reason. In order to fix the sagging mattress with plywood, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Determine The Type Of Mattress:
The first step is to determine the type of sagging mattress. The step helps the user to determine whether the sagging mattress can be fixed with plywood or not. There are several types of mattresses that cannot be fixed if they sag such as air, waterbed, and innerspring mattresses. Apart from these three mattress types, all the other sagging mattresses can be fixed with plywood.
  2. Measure The Sag:
The next step in the procedure is to take measurement of the sag by using a measuring tape and yardstick. The user needs to measure the depth of the sag by positioning the yardstick perpendicularly. The step helps the user to determine the thickness with which the sagging can be reversed.
  3. Cut A Piece Of Plywood:
After that, the user needs to cut a piece of plywood that should be 1-inch smaller in dimensions compared to the bed and the mattress.
  4. Place The Plywood Underneath:
The last step will be to place the plywood piece underneath the mattress above box spring. If the sagging is caused by lack of support, placing plywood underneath will give the mattress a firm base. In case, the bed has a slatted base, the user needs to place the plywood on top of the bed frame slats and then place the mattress on top of it. The plywood will provide support to the mattress that will eventually stop it from sagging.
  5. Alternate Procedure:
In case, the mattress sags due to frequent use, the user can fix it temporarily with plywood. First, the user needs to cut a piece of plywood in similar size and shape compared to the sagged area. Then, the user needs to place the piece of plywood under the sagged area of the mattress. The plywood will push the mattress up at the sagged area and will make the area feel firmer and quite similar to the rest of the mattress.
