Step By Step Procedure & Items Required To Fix A Cracked Door Frame

The cracks that are present on the door are the regular problems as probably the sides where the metal hinges are fastened are more prone to getting split. Mostly it happens when anything gets stuck in between the Jamb and door and the users didn't notice it and closed the door. If the door is opened forcefully it will get the cracks. The users can easily fix a cracked door frame at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-described step by step procedure:

Items Required

  • Drill/Driver, Putty Knife & Wood Glue
  • Clamps, Chiesel & Screws

Procedure

  • Remove The Door: Start by detaching the door within its jamb by using the driver or drill. Once the users detached the door they need to place it over the pair of sawhorses and then detach the door hinges as well.
  • Clean Up Splinters: Then gently embed the tip of the putty knife within the cracks so as to clean up all the fragments or the wood splinters that can let the cracks to bind up perfectly.
  • Apply The Wood Glue: Then pry down the split area apart with the putty knife. Then spread the wood glue over the entire cracked area by placing the glue bottle tip within the cracked area and then press the glue downwards by using the fingertips till the whole cracked area is soaked with the wood glue. Fill up all the cracks in the same pattern.
  • Use The Wood Block: After that, the users need to place the woodblock over both the cracked area sides on the doors and the blocks should be longer than the cracked area. Then place the pair of sawhorses over the wood blocks in a way that one jaw should fit over the topmost block and the other one should fit at the base block. Fasten the clamps till the wood glue comes out of the cracked area and let the wood glue to get dried off completely for near about one hour or even for the one whole night. Then detach the clamps respectively.
  • Scrape The Wood Glue: Then scrape down the dried wood glue over the cracked area of the door by using the putty knife and also wipe down the wood glue from the metal hinges by using the chisel.
  • Re-affix The Door: Finally the users need to affix the hinges back to its actual place by using the screws that are near about half-inch protracted than the actual ones. Then at last affix the door back to its actual position.
