How To Fix A Broken Table Leg: 10 Easy Steps To Repair

10 Easy Steps To Fix/Repair A Broken Table Leg

A broken table leg frequently means that your table will be thrown out & replaced. But if your table is in differently
good shape, or if it has affectionate value then the table leg can be easily fixed. If your table leg breaks off with a clean, consecutive horizontal edge it can be repaired with the help of carpenter's wood glue. If the break is at a diagonal angle, a few additional steps are needed which are mentioned below to strengthen the broken area so it can withstand the weight. Here are the 10 easy steps for this process:
  1. Move your table to garage or outdoors. If moving your table is not possible then place a plastic tarp over your floor to avoid it from being damaged during the repair process of your broken leg.
  2. Flip your table over so that it is upside-down with the legs pointing into the air.
  3. Place the broken leg piece back into its initial position, with the broken edges fitted together closely as much as possible.
  4. Wrap masking tape around your table leg four to five times in order to hold it in actual position while you continue with the repairing process.
  5. Next, insert a 1/8-inch bit into your drill machine. Drill 2 holes in the table leg at 90-degree angles to the tabletop. The holes should be located at the point of the break & should pass through the section attached to the table and go through the broken-off portion of the table leg as well. Both holes must go through with the entire combined leg.
  6. Into each hole you need to insert a nail until it extends through the other side of the table leg. Use a hammer to gently tap the nail in if needed. Remove the masking tape from around the leg of the table.
  7. Place the tip of the glue bottle against the table leg at the actual location of the break. Congestion the bottle gently in order to insert the glue into the break. Inserting glue around the whole table leg, you need to press the leg pieces together with your hands to compress the glue in the breaks.
  8. Turn a one-foot-long section of wax paper so that the wax side faces to the table leg. Now, wrap the wax paper around the whole table leg and secure it with the help of masking tape. Allow the table leg to sit for at least 1 complete day (24 hours) to allow the glue to dry completely.
  9. Once dried, remove the masking tape & wax paper from the table leg. Cut off all four nail ends as close to the surface of your table leg as possible. Use wire cutters for this process.
  10. File down the four bulge ends of the nails until they are smooth & flush with your table leg. Use a metal file in order to turn the table right side up & place it back into its original destination.
