Another thing to remember is that this process requires a lot of time so you need to have patience while accomplishing this task. To start the repairing process, first, collect certain items and then go through the steps carefully:

Items Needed

  • Fine Grit Sandpaper
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Stain & Clean Rags
  • Varnish Or Stain Remover

Step 1: Strip The Stain Or Varnish

First of all, make sure you have an exceptional quality stain or varnish remover, then apply it to the legs of the pool table to start the process of stripping. Strippers are available in numerous types and while using the strippers, you have to follow the same directions that you will find at the back of the stripper can. Give stripper a little bit of time before working on it and then start using the rag in order to scrub away the varnish. Stripping is directly dependent on the sanding process, the better the legs are stripped, the better the sanding will be done.

Step 2: Sanding

After the stripping process, make it dry and use sandpaper(fine grit) for sanding the entire area very smoothly. You need to sand each & every part, all the way to bare wood. If in case you find cracks, then you need to try and fix this issue. You will not be able to give the exact shape after you have been using it for years, but you should try to make it as close as it used to be.

Step 3: Cleaning

During the sanding process, it is possible that dust particles can appear and in that case, you need to clean these dust particles and for that, you can use the small paintbrush. Make sure to clean each & every part including joints & creases, which in most of the cases people ignore. After cleaning, use clean rag in order to get rid of wood & coating materials.

Step 4: Staining

Finally, it is time for the staining process, which you need to start from the top of the legs and slowly move towards the bottom of the table leg. In order to rub the stain from the leg surface, you can use cotton clean rag. Moke sure to get the stain in every corner of the table leg including the joints & creases. Perform all these processes carefully, otherwise, you have to repeat all the above-mentioned steps. To keep yourself safe during the process, use painters mask with rubber gloves, and make sure your skin and lungs will remain safe.
