5 Easy Steps To Fill Wood Cracks With Turquoise

Turquoise is an aluminum and copper hydrogen phosphate that comes in blue to green shade. It is prized similar to ornamental stone and gemstone for thousands of years due to its unique hue. Nowadays, wood crafts that are filled with turquoise are becoming a very popular choice among people. The user can also fill in the wood cracks with turquoise by following the below-given steps:
  1. Prepare Cracks:
The first step will be to prepare cracks for which the user needs to inspect the cracks carefully and see whether they break from the backside or not. If the cracks break from the backside, the user needs to stick the plumber's tape over the entire length of the cracks or a little beyond them. The tape will ensure that the turquoise inlay stays in place and if the cracks are on the edge of the wood, the user needs to cover them with tape as well. Apart from that, the user needs to run his fingers over the tape in order to securely stick the tape.
  2. Prepare Turquoise:
In order to prepare turquoise, the user needs to pick a handful of small stone scraps and sandwich them together in between two steel sheets. Then, the user needs to place the sheets over a hard surface and hammer the top sheet in order to shatter the stone shards. The user needs to continue hammering until the stones become gritty sand. The step should be repeated with some more small quantities of stones until the gritty sand will be enough to fill in all the cracks.
  3. Prepare Inlay Filler:
The next step will be to prepare inlay filler by mixing gritty sand of small stone scraps with epoxy glue in a cup. The epoxy glue should be mixed as per the label instructions. A wood craft stick can be used to stir the mixture until it becomes similar to paste. It has been recommended to prepare the inlay filler in a well-ventilated area as fumes from epoxy can be very harmful.
  4. Fill Cracks With Turquoise:
After that, the user needs to fill in the cracks with turquoise. The craft stick can be used to scoop inlay filler from the cup and put it inside the cracks. It has been recommended to spill the inlay filler over the edges slighly in order to give them a messy look. The user needs to let the epoxy cure the wood as per the label instructions.
  5. Give Finishing Touch:
Once the inlay filler cures the wood, the user needs to sand it in the direction of the wood grain. The sanding process should begin with coarse sandpaper, followed by medium grit sandpaper, and at last, finish with fine grit sandpaper. The user needs to make sure that the inlay filler has completely covered the cracks and feels as smooth as the wood surface.
