If you decide to change the old cushions and purchase new one, then first of all, you need to dye the cushion covers at home. Dyeing is important due to the reason that cushion covers may be affected by stains, become outdated or doesn't fit with the décor anymore.   1. Remove The Covers: First off all, you need to take out the cushion from the covers. If in case your cushion covers can not be removed, rigorously undo one of the side seams with the help of embroidery scissors or a seam ripper, in such a way that the cushion form or stuffing from the inside can be removed. After dyeing the covers, again sew this seam back together.
  2. Use Rubber Gloves And Apron: The next step is to use gloves and apron and then boil 2 cups of water in a steamer or kettle.
  3. Pour The Boiling Water In Your Bucket: After boiling the water, put it in your bucket & then spray the amount of dye, into the water, that has been suggested for the volume of fabric you are working with. Blend the mixture with the help of an old wooden spoon as long as the dye is fully dissolved into the water.
  4. Add More Hot Water: Put in some more hot water in your bucket as long as you feel that you have enough water now in order to completely pour over your cushion covers. It is not necessary to boil the extra water, however, you need to allow the faucet run as long as it’s hot.
  5. Soak Cushion Covers: Now, lay down the cushion covers into the dye bath and soak them up with the help of wooden spoon as long as the fabric is completely saturated. Cushion covers need approximately 5 minutes to soak.
  6. Add Salt And White Vinegar: If in case your cushion covers are composed of cotton, linen or rayon, add salt(1 cup) to the solution. However, if the fabric of cushion covers are composed of silk, wool or nylon, add white vinegar(1 cup) instead of the salt. Blend the mixture with the the help of a wooden spoon. The salt and vinegar will be very helpful for the dye to go into or through the fabric's fibers.
  7. Examine The New Color: Submerge the cushion covers in the dye solution nearly for 1 hour, which is totally dependent on the depth of color you aspire. After every 5 minutes, make sure to distress the fabric by revolving it around in the solution with the the help of spoon. Regularly, take one of the covers slightly out of the bath in order to examine its new color. Remember, the color will be lighter when the fabric is dry than it looks when wet.
  8. Dry The Cushion Covers: Finally, take out the cushion covers from the dye bath as soon as you feel that the color is according to your liking. Smoothly splash out the excess dye solution. Cleanse the fabric under warm water firstly, then under cold water as long as the water runs clear. Splash out the excess water from the cushion covers and dry them on either on a clothesline or in your dryer.
