Step By Step Guide & Items Required To Drain A Waterbed

Sleeping on the water bed can be fun but emptying down the waterbed is not an easy job. It eventually takes enough time and the preparation as well to empty the waterbed but still, it can be a bit easier and less stressful if the users use the right tools and the right techniques. The users can easily drain a waterbed at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined steps:

Materials Required

  • Garden Hose, Hose Connector & Bucket
  • Towels, Siphon Pump
  • Outside Spigot Or Faucet

Step I: Prepare To Drain The Mattress

  • Uncover The Bed: Start by uncovering the bed and to do so the users need to detach the entire bedding within the waterbed. This consists of detaching the sheets, pillows, mattress pads, and other accessories as well. It won't be possible for them to drain their bed without uncovering it.
  • Lay The Towels: Now lay the towels at the bed foot. Once the users uncovered the bed they need to take certain tools and place all those things near the waterbed. They also need to lay a few towels at the mattress ends so that they can easily take up the water spills. The users are advised to keep a few more towels if in case they are having the larger spills than they expected.
  • Disconnect The Bed: Next disconnect the water bed and to do so the users need to go to the bed backside and then disconnect the heater of the bed and the other plugs that can have power aspect with the bed. Without disconnecting the waterbed the users can easily damage the water bed or they can easily put themselves in danger.
  • Find The Valve: Find out the drain valve that is used for filling or evacuate their waterbed. Usually, the valve is located at the bed foot or at certain times it is located at the center or at one side of the bed. Once they find out the valve they need to detach the cap out of it.
  • Evacuate The Excess Air: Then evacuate the unneeded air within the mattress. The users need to evacuate as much as air possible for them within the mattress and to do so they can use the sweep or the broom and then rub it from the topmost mattress end towards the drain valve. Evacuating the air will make this procedure easy and if in case the users won't evacuate the air then it will complicate the draining procedure.
  • Fasten The Cap: After that, place back the cap on the drain valve, and by this, they will easily prevent the air from getting back within the mattress. They need to make sure to fasten the cap so that the water won't get out of it.

Step II: Run The Hose Outside

  • Run The Garden Hose: Start by running the garden hose with the bed out of the nearest window. The users need to take the hose and then place the head of the spigot out of the nearest window near to the spigot on the home side. Then take another end and then place it near to the drain valve. The drain hose end should be beneath the waterbed. If the users fail to place it beneath the bed then it won't be possible for them to drain their waterbed. If desired the users can empty their waterbed in the tub or the sink and not in any outside area. If the user chooses to drain the bed in any sink then they need to be sure that their sink drains water quickly and properly and if the sink is not having the proper drainage then the users can land themselves in flooding their home.
  • Place The Bucket: Then place the bucket beneath the hose inner end and place the bucket near to the waterbed and then place the hose end within the bucket. Eventually, the bucket will easily catch up with the water that will come from the hose before they start the procedure.
  • Affix The Hose: Affix the hose to the exterior spigot and then turn the hose on. Then let the hose slowly run till the water stream will easily get spilled out of it within the bucket that is placed near to the bed. The running water within the hose will also extinguish the leftover air within the hose and thus it will ease the process of draining.
  • Link Up The Hose: Then link up the hose, hose adapter, and the valve as well. Detach the cap from the waterbed and affix the hose adapter within the bed. Then link up the hose with the adapter and make sure that all of 2 parts are fastened so that there will be no leakage of the water.

Step III: Drain The Waterbed

  • Disconnect The Hose: Start by disconnecting the hose within the spigot. Once the users disconnect the hose within the spigot the water will easily start beginning to flow out from bed within the hose and to the outside home ground. If desired the users can also allow the water to get drained into the tub or the sink.
  • Affix The Pump: Affix the pump if in case the users are having. If they want to speed up the drawing process then they need to affix it with the hose end that is placed in the outside area. Then quickly turn the power on once the users connected up the pump.
  • Place The Heavy Objects: Then place the heavy weighted objects all around the drain valve and by doing so this will make the valve area get depressed and then lower its compression with the rest of the area of the bed.
  • Roll The Mattress: Roll down the mattress towards the drain valve once the mattress gets emptied they need to roll the mattress from the bed head towards the drain valve. The users are advised to perform this procedure slowly and be careful not to apply the heavy pressure on the drain valve. Then carry the mattress to the outside area and make it to get empty entirely.
