5 Easy Steps To Distress Hardwood Floors

Distressing is a process by which the hardwood floors appear to be aged. The material required for distressing the hardwood floors includes enamel paint, sandpaper, belt sander, stain, Wire brush, and paste wax or lacquer. The steps are mentioned below for distressing the hardwood floors:
  1. Lightly Sand: The first step is to lightly sand the floor surface by using 80-grit or 100-grit sandpaper. Due to sanding the surface appears to be smooth and all the imperfections remove away from the floor surface. Then clean the floor surface in order to remove the sanded residue and debris particles.
  2. Paint: Next step is to apply paint on the hardwood floor surface. There is no need to apply primer on the floor surface directly apply enamel paint which is mostly recommended for the floors.
  3. Scuff Sand: Wait for about a day until the paint dries on the floor. Scuff the floor by distressing the paint from high traffic areas. Then again clean the floor surface.
  4. Stain: After scuffing the stain is applied on the floor surface with the help of cotton rags for providing a vintage look and stain is removed from the floor surface immediately. The staining then converts into bright paint antique cream color.
  5. Seal: When the stain dries completely the customer need to apply the seal like paste wax or lacquer on the floor surface for the protection of floor surface.
