Distressing method for wood furniture is the easy and best way to add new look to the home. The distressing method is also famous as the weathered look that is not only for the furniture but clothes can also be distressed by distressing methods like denim distressed jeans or shirts. Distressing wood furniture is not a difficult task to perform. Here are some easy and simple steps along with items required to distress the wood furniture instantly.   1. Sandpaper.
  2. Steelwool.
  3. Paint brushes or Rollers.
  4. Polyurethane.
  5. Candle Wax.
  6. Paint.
  7. Drop cloths
  8. Rags or tack cloths.

Distressing Steps

  1. Preparation: First step to start the work is to prepare and Laying down drop cloths on the surface of the working area. Also, remove handles and screws from wood furniture.
  2. Sanding: Small grit sandpaper (60-80) is best to make the surface suitable for distressing method. Rub the sandpaper gently for 5-7 minutes until the surface is smooth enough.
  3. Clean The Piece: After sanding, the dust and dirt will come out from wood furniture and then clean it with the rags or tack cloths. The user can also use a vacuum cleaner to clean the dust and dirt.

  7. Apply Stain: Apply a thick layer of wood stain on the distressed furniture and then wipe it with rag cloth.
  8. Polyurethane: Now apply a polyurethane to the distressed wood furniture to protect the colors of furniture. Allow the distressed furniture to dry completely then attach all the handles and other things back.
