Distressing is the only way to give an awesome and antique look to your old furniture. You may need to follow the given steps carefully in order to get the best results of distressing your old furniture. Here are the easy steps to distress the furniture like metal furniture:
  1. Wipe: Wipe dust and dirt if there is any, with a cleaning cloth. Use cloth damps with warm water and use it to clean off your metal furniture. Be sure to clean off all the surfaces that you are going to paint so the paint can adhere properly to them. Dry off any visible spots if they are still wet.
  2. Paint 1 Coat: Now paint one coat of chalky paint onto your metal furniture and let it dry for few hours. You need to buy a container of chalky paint and a soft-bristled paintbrush. Dip the end of the paintbrush into the can of the paint and apply a thin layer to the metal furniture. Do your work from the top of the piece down toward the bottom until it’s entirely covered in chalky paint. Keep it there for overnight in order to make it dry.
  3. Second Coat: Once, dried fully then apply a second coat of paint and let it dry for nearly 3-4 days. Once the first layer is dry completely, put on another coat of paint until your metal furniture has even color. Once the metal is covered with paint, let it dry for 3-4 days before following the other steps to get the best results of second coat.
  4. Wipe: Wipe areas of your metal furniture with a damp cloth to distress them easily. Hold the corner of a cleaning cloth wet and rub any areas where the users want to expose the metal underneath the chalky paint. Simply apply light pressure to lift up the paint.
  5. Seal: After you've finished your distressing process now seal the paint with finishing wax to protect your distressing work. Dip the end of cheesecloth into the wax and pick up a small amount from the can. Rub the wax onto the surface of your metal furniture and paint in circular or back and forth motions. Coat the entire piece of your metal furniture so it’s protected and won’t get damaged or scratched easily.
