Cleaning your blankets at home can be very tricky, due to the reason the blankets have feathers inside it & it can be very messy if in case you don't know the proper way of cleaning the blanket. Method 1: Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning is one of the best methods of disinfecting blankets without using water on it. You simply need to use a small amount of detergent & apply it carefully on the stain affected area of the blanket. After that, you need to wait for some time & allow the detergent to soften the stains in the fabric. As soon as the stains soften up, use a traditional hair dryer in order to clean up the stains. You can also use a small quantity of water in order to make the spot cleaning process faster, however, you need to be very careful while spraying water on the stain affected areas in order to make sure that the water doesn't spread all over the blanket.

Method 2: Waterless Cleaning Method

This is another method that you can use in order to disinfect the blankets without using any kind of water. This methods works as follows:
  • Lay The Blanket On A Surface: Firstly, position your blanket on a flat surface. The place where you laid your blanket should be firm enough & it is not a good idea to work on the stain keeping the blanket placed on the bed, especially if you are dealing with urine stain. After placing the blanket on a flat surface, soak up the stains with the help of a few paper towels. In case of urine stains, make sure to wash the stains as rigorously as possible.
  • Don't Rub On The Stain: The majority of the people start rubbing on the stains, which is not a good idea at all, due to the reason that it will only make the stain to spread to the other parts of the blanket. You need to soak up the stains smoothly & also remove the soiled paper towels as well.
  • Baking Soda: In case of a normal stain, baking soda is the best option. Spray a small amount of baking soda over the stain affected area & allow it to get set on the blanket for nearly an hour. Remember to turn your fan off in order to make sure that the stains of the baking soda do not spread. After that, eliminate the baking soda with the help of a vacuum cleaner having a proper hose attachment. Baking soda is an effective cleaner when it comes to getting rid of the stubborn stains, so it is highly recommended to use baking soda instead of the harmful substances having chemical compounds that could damage your blanket.
  • Soak Up The Stains: Finally, you need to soak up the stains & you will see that the stains have become lighter. One of the best things about using baking soda is that it behaves as a natural deodorizer.

Method 3: Getting Dust Out

If in case you have placed your blankets outside in an open space, it is highly possible that the blanket is going to attract a lot of dust & getting rid of the dust is actually an easier process then removing the stains from the blanket. There are two ways of getting dust out of a blanket:
  • Beat The Blanket With Stick: You simply need to hang your blanket outside on a clothesline & start beating the blanket strongly with the help of a stick in order to get all the dust out of the blanket. While doing this, you need to cover your face by using mask so that you will not inhale all of the dust coming out of a blanket. If in case you don't have stick to beat the blanket, then you can properly shake the blanket as it will also help get rid of the dust from the blanket.
  • Lay The Blanket On A Flat Surface: This is a simpler way, all you need to do is to position your blanket on a flat surface & take vacuum cleaner, keeping its setting on high mode, then move your vacuum cleaner over the blanket on both the sides, which eventually helps you get rid of the dust from the blanket.
