Steps To Darken Hardwood Floors Without Sanding

The material required to darken the hardwood floors include glaze, oil-based stain, brush, a gel stain, staining pads, and toner spray. The steps are given below to darken the wood floors without sanding:
  1. Choose The Dark Finish: The first step is to choose gel stain, water-based stain, or glaze as the result of their stain is a dark finish.
  2. Choose Oil Based Stain: Oil based stain provides a transparent finish. Applying oil based stain on the existing stain slightly darkens the stain.
  3. Apply Stain: Now the customer needs to apply the thin coats of stain on the floor surface with the help of foam brush.
  4. Wipe The Floor: Next step is to take staining pads and remove the extra stain from the floor surface and make the floor look darker.
  5. Let The Stain Dry: Wait for about 24 hours and leave the stain to dry on the floor.
  6. Apply Another Coat Of Stain: When the first coat of stain dries properly then apply the second coat of stain on the floor surface in order to get a darker finish on the floor.
  7. Apply Sealer: When the floor dries completely, apply sealer on the floor surface. A coat of sealer locks the stain and provides a smooth and shiny finish on the floor surface. The sealer also protects the floor from stains and spills.
  8. Spray Toner: For adjusting with the color of the stain, spray toner can be used. Spray toner is sprayed on the sealer coat in order to match the color.
  9. Glaze: If the customer does not want to use the spray toner for color adjustment, the other option is to use the pigmented glaze. The use of glaze can leave brush strokes on the floor surface.
