How To Cover Up Medicine Cabinet Hole: Easy Process Of Fixing Medicine Cabinet Hole

Medicine cabinets are generally installed in bathrooms by cutting a space in the drywall in order to make sure that it fits the depth of the cabinet. This will make it possible for the doors to be closer to flush with the wall even though the space at the back of the drywall is used for storage. This works exceptionally well if you are looking to save space in your bathroom, however, when removed, it is possible that you will face with a huge rectangular hole. But don't worry, you can easily cover the hole on the wall by filling it using Wood Filler or using Drywall Putty. As soon as it is dried, you can sand it as well as paint it over using a color that exactly matches the color of your existing wall. If there is not so much of a time to fill the hole, then another option is to temporarily hang a mirror or an artwork to cover it.

Easy Process Of Fixing Medicine Cabinet Hole

One of the best ways when it comes to covering the hole is to use Drywall Mounting Tabs that are placed or fixed on the edges of the hole and are held in position with the help of a drywall screw. Another way is to place two Wood Planks on the inside of the hole which are secured into the existing drywall and fix the new piece of drywall to the supports. In order to cover up or fix the medicine cabinet hole, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully. There are numerous methods when it comes to fixing medicine cabinet hole, and one of the methods is mentioned below:
  1. Cut The Top & Bottom Of The Recessed Area On The Wall: First of all, cut the top as well as the bottom of the recessed area on the wall with the help of a drywall saw. You need to slip the boards at the back of the edges of the drywall in order to patch the hole.
  2. Measure The Length Of The Rectangular Hole: Now, get a plank measuring 1 by 3 inches. Calculate or compute the length of the rectangular hole before cutting the plank at least 2.5 inches longer than the taken measurement.
  3. Place The Planks On Both Sides Of The Rectangular Hole: Next, position the planks on each of the sides of the rectangular hole. Make sure to place the board in a way that each end overlaps the drywall by 1.25 inches. Secure the boards into the drywall using screws with the help of screwdriver. Cut a patch of drywall exactly of the same size as the hole on the wall.
  4. Apply Construction Adhesive: Now, put or spread construction adhesive to the surface of the 1 by 3s. Set the drywall to the hole by pressing it to the adhesive. Secure each side of the drywall using screws. Using the joint compound, cover or protect the edges of the drywall in order to fill the cracks on the edges.
  5. Allow The Joint Compound To Dry: Finally, permit the joint compound to dry fully. As soon as it is dried, sand the compound as long as it is smooth. Make sure to protect the area by applying two more layers of drywall compound and let it dry completely between coats. As soon as the final coat of joint compound is applied, sand it in order to get a smooth finish. Apply exactly the same color of the paint as the wall.
