How To Connect Pipes Under Sink: Step By Step Process Of Installation Of Sink Drain Pipes

Step By Step Process Of Installation Of Kitchen Sink Drain Pipes

There are not so many reasons for changing the drain pipes underneath a sink, but it is not uncommon to replace the pipes at the time of a kitchen renovation when the sink is being replaced. If you want to install sink drain pipes, you can do so easily, simply go through the below-mentioned step by step process carefully and achieve the desired result of your task:

Step 1: Brass Tailpiece

The first step is to attach a brass tailpiece right to the bottom of the basket strainer. For that simply take a brass tailpiece and then line them up with the threads, while keeping the threads on the right at the bottom of the basket strainer. After that screw right on the tailpiece as tightly as possible using the hands. The user can purchase the brass tailpieces at the hardware stores as well as at any of the home improvement stores.

Step 2: Rubber Compression Gasket

The second step is to position a rubber compression gasket on the inside of the drain pipe. A rubber compression gasket is actually a small and flexible gasket that helps to create a watertight seal. The user needs to insert a compression gasket at the top of the pipe of the sink. It must fit snugly into the place. The important point to note is that the rubber gaskets usually come in many different sizes. So, choose the one that fits the diameter of the drain pipe.

Step 3: Hold

Now grasp the top of the drainpipe with the bottom of the tailpiece. The drainpipe that the user disconnected will be below the tailpiece of the sink drain. Move the drainpipe in a way so that it is touching the bottom of the brass tailpiece and the 2 edges are properly aligned. It is highly advisable not to force or jerk the drainpipe as this could break it.

Step 4: Connector Ring

Slide-in the connector ring on the drainpipe but up the brass tailpiece and then tighten it firmly. The drainpipe usually has a small plastic ring that is threaded in a way to fit onto the tailpiece. The user needs to slide it up the drainpipe and then align the threads keeping the threads right at the bottom of the brass tailpiece. Screw down the connector right onto the brass tailpiece.

Step 5: Tighten The Connector Using A Wrench

In this step, the user needs to take an adjustable wrench and then fit it on the connector that is screwed over the tailpiece. Turn the wrench in a way to tighten up the connector so that the drainpipe is properly connected with the tailpiece as well as is sealed. It is advisable to be careful not to overtighten the connector as it cracks the plastic.

Step 6: Test The Drain

Finally, it is time to test the drain for making sure that the water is properly flowing into the basket strainer and in the drain pipes by simply turning on the water. Check under the sink to make sure that the water is not leaking out as well as the drain is working properly. If there are any signs of water leaking out of the basket strainer, then one of the connections may be loose. In that case, turn off the sink, and tighten the brass tailpiece as well as the plastic connector, and again test the water.
