Steps To Clean Unsealed Wood Floors

In order to create a rustic charm in any living space, people usually prefer installing unsealed wood flooring that can last for years if properly maintained & cleaned. Due to the unsealed nature of the flooring, it has been recommended by the experts to clean the flooring with a non-watery cleaning product. The steps to clean the unsealed wood floors are as follows:
  1. Vacuum Regularly:
    First, the user needs to vacuum the unsealed wood flooring regularly. It has been recommended by the experts to vacuum the flooring with a brush tool attachment with which the chances of dirt and other materials getting into the raw wood are reduced. In order to remove dirt from tight spots, the crevice tool attachment should be used with the vacuum. Alternatively, the user can sweep the floor if he doesn't have access to the vacuum. Apart from that, the user needs to vacuum or sweep the unsealed flooring before doing a routine clean-up.
  2. Use Odorless Mineral Spirits:
    The next step will be to apply odorless mineral spirits over the unsealed wood flooring. First, the user needs to pour a small amount of odorless mineral spirits over a clean cloth and wipe out the small sections of unsealed flooring with it. It has been recommended by the experts to use odorless mineral spirits as they are safe to use and doesn't contain any dangerous vapors that can be found in normal mineral spirits.
  3. Prepare Spray Bottle For Bigger Jobs:
    If the user has to clean a large area of unsealed wood floors, he needs to fill in a spray bottle with odorless mineral spirits. In order to clean the large area of the floor, the user needs to spray odorless mineral spirits over the area and spread the spirits by using a microfiber mop. The microfiber mop is recommended as it will clean the unsealed flooring containing mineral spirits and will also dry the flooring at the same time.
  4. Use Ammonia (Alternate):
    If the user doesn't have odorless mineral spirits, he can clean the flooring with ammonia as well. First, the user needs to pour some ammonia in a bucket and then apply it on to the unsealed wood flooring with a sponge. It has been recommended by the experts to properly ventilate the room before using ammonia. Also, the user needs wring out excess ammonia from the sponge before wiping the flooring with it. The user needs to dry the flooring thoroughly by using a microfiber mop.
  5. Apply Wax:
    In between cleanings, the user needs to wax the unsealed wood flooring with a non-watery wax. It has been recommended by the experts to apply the wax on to the flooring with a soft cloth. The wax will give the unsealed wood flooring a certain level of protection. Apart from that, the wax will not give any overwhelming shine to the unsealed flooring.
