What Are The Steps To Clean Unfinished Wood For Staining?

In order to prepare the unfinished wood for staining, the user needs to clean it with a type of cleaning solution that will not leave any residue behind and cleans up the buildup on unfinished wood easily. The following steps need to be followed in order to clean an unfinished wood before staining:
  1. Prepare A Solution:
    In a spray bottle, the user needs to put two cups of water with two tablespoons of white vinegar and shake the bottle well to prepare a mixture. The mixture can be used for unfinished heavy solid wood having a sticky or similar type of residue.
  2. Cleaning:
    The next step will be to spray a mixture on a lint-free cleaning rag and rub the dampened cloth on the unfinished wood. The user needs to rub the rag towards the direction of the wood grain in order to prevent splintering. It is not recommended to use paper towels as they may leave paper particles which will eventually affect the staining process.
  3. Drying:
    The last step will be to let the unfinished wood dry completely before staining it.
