Procedure To Clean Sanded Wood Floors Before Staining
It is necessary to clean all sanding dust traces from the wooden floor before staining in order to get a smooth and beautiful finish. In case the user stain over the dust traces present on the wooden floor due to sanding, the surface will turn rough as well as muddy in color. In order to clean sanded wood floors before staining, the user needs to follow the below-given procedure:
- Vacuum The Dust Off:
The first step will be to vacuum the entire wooden floor including crevices. It has been recommended by the experts to use a shop vacuum containing a decent quality filter that should be designed to trap the smallest of dust. Alternate to vacuuming, the user can blow off most of the sanding dust by using an air compressor that has blower nozzle fitted in it. - Wipe Down The Floor:
After vacuuming, the user needs to wipe down the entire wooden floor with a clean dry cloth. It has been recommended by the experts to use a white cloth as it will allow the user to see how much dust he is collecting during the wipe down. - Use Tack Cloth:
The third step will be to wipe down the wood floor with a tack cloth. Tack cloth refers to a type of cheesecloth that is loosely woven and is impregnated with beeswax. Once the user wipes the wooden floor with a tack cloth, it will pick up all the dust left behind by vacuuming and dry cloth. Apart from that, tack cloth helps the user to check whether the wood floor is smooth or not because the threads of tack cloth will snag on to the rough surface. - Use Denatured Alcohol (Optional):
Using tack cloth can be considered as the last step to clean sanded wood floors before staining but in order to get better results, it has been recommended by many experts to wipe down the entire floor with a clean cloth dampened with denatured alcohol. The denatured alcohol helps the user in removing the finest dust from the wood floor.
