How To Clean Roller Blinds: Two Easy Methods Of Cleaning Roller Blinds

Two Easy Methods Of Cleaning Roller Blinds

Roller blinds offer simple & dignified window coverings that will fit in every decor of your home. Cleaning methods of the blinds depend predominantly on the material that your roller blinds are made from. If your blind material can be inundated in water, then you need to collect all the useful items and follow all the simple cleaning steps. If your blinds are made from a material that cannot become saturated with water then you need to do spot cleaning and this is a safe process for this type of material. Here are the two easy methods to clean your roller blinds.

Method 1: Washing The Blinds

  1. First of all, collect certain items required for the process like mild laundry detergent, Bleach, sponge or soft cloths, vacuum with a brush attachment, bathtub, etc.
  2. Then you need to remove all the blinds carefully and lay them flat on your floor. If it is not possible to remove then you can spot clean them as washing could alleviate the glue which is holding your blind onto your roller.
  3. If your roller blinds are exclusively dirty, then you have to use your vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt from the blinds surface.
  4. You also need to use the brush attachment on your vacuum to lightly brush over the surface of your roller blinds and vacuum away the loose dirt, dead bugs, etc. Next, fill your bathtub about half full of water(warm).
  5. Next you need to add some laundry detergent in your bathtub water and mix it well until the suds begin to form on the surface. If your blinds are white then you need to add a small amount of bleach to the water as well.
  6. Next, carefully lay the blinds in your bathtub and leave them to soak in the soapy water for 2 hours.
  7. After that, start at one end of your blinds and lightly wipe them forth & back by using any soft cloth or sponge because this step will help to remove any leftover dirt and/or stains.
  8. In order to clean tough stains then you need to scrub them gently by using an old toothbrush. Drain the sudsy water from your bathtub. If possible then clean your bathtub for dirty water.
  9. Fill it again with clean water and then rinse your blinds. Repeat the process until all of the soapy solutions are removed from the blinds. If soap residue still remains on the blinds then it easily collects dirt and dust.
  10. If your friend is available for help then the blinds can be held up easily and rinsed by using a shower sprayer for quicker soapy solution removal.
  11. Next you need to lay your blinds on a shower rod, drying rack, or outside on a clothesline until your blinds are completely dried. You can also place the fan near your blinds if indoors to speed drying time and avert any water stains.
  12. Finally, attach them back onto your roller and then reinstall them over your window.

Method 2: Spot Cleaning The Blinds

  1. Firstly collect the required materials like a vacuum, Post-It notes, upholstery foam, scrub brush, fan or hairdryer, etc.
  2. Check if the material is glued onto your roller then your blinds must be clean while hanging.
  3. Next, examine your blinds for any dirt & stains spots. You can mark all the spots with a Post-It note as you examine. If your blinds are generally dirty or dusty, then you need to start your work by vacuuming them with the help of upholstery brush attachment.
  4. Always brush according to the grain of your blinds if they are side-to-side. Clean any stains or dirt spots with white foam shaving cream or you can also use upholstery foam cleaner by simply applying the foam on any dirty spot and scrubbing it softly with the help of a soft scrub brush like a nail brush or old toothbrush.
  5. Next you need to wipe off any extra foam, then you need to blot by using a damp cloth to rinse. The blotting is not very important, nevertheless, if there is a residue from a cleaner that leftover on a blind surface then it will frequently attract dirt & stains once again.
  6. If your roller blinds are very dirty then you can use the foam on the affected area. You need to use a larger brush so you can save your time, like an old soft-bristled dish brush. Simply you have to work in small sections, scrubbing the foam in, wipe off the foam by using a cloth, then blotting the affected area with the help of a damp cloth to rinse it.
  7. You need to know that the blotting process is not strictly needed but this will help to keep your blinds clean for longer.
  8. Open your windows or you can also point a fan on the area to speed up your drying process, which will help to avert water stains. Drying your blinds with the help of a hairdryer on cool air mode.
