Two Easy Methods Of Cleaning Oriental Rugs
The Oriental rugs come in all varieties & shapes & are generally made from materials like wool or cotton, but they can also be made from other things like synthetic material or silk. Adding your oriental rug to your house will bring a space to life, but like most of the rugs, the oriental rugs are prone to getting dirty. Luckily, if you use the proper procedure to care & clean for your rug then you can keep your oriental rug looking new for many upcoming years. If you have an oriental rug and you want to clean it by your self but you are confused about the procedure then don't worry just go through the two easy given methods with step by step guide to clean your oriental rug:
Method 1: Quick Cleaning
- Sweep Your Rug: Firstly, you need to use a broom with straw bristles or you can also use a carpet sweeper to do the basic cleaning of the rug. Simply sweep in one direction from end to end but do not rub your broom in forth & back motion because you could end up damaging your rug. Once you've finished sweeping the entirety of your rug, now again repeat this step and go over it for the 2nd time.
- Vacuum: Next you need to vacuum your rug on both sides. Simply layout your rug in a larger empty area and then vacuum over your rug very slowly to remove any excess dirt, hair & abrasives that can damage your rug. Repeat this step for 2-3 times to get rid of all the debris and dirt from your rug. Avert your rug's fringes because they will be stuck in your vacuum's sweeper. Once you've finished your vacuuming process, now you need to flip your rug over and again repeat the process on the other side of your rug.
- Shake & Beat Your Rug Outside: If you can pick your rug up then you can take it outside and then shake your rug to remove ingrained dirt & other types of particles. If your oriental rug is too big to shake then simply hang it on your clothesline and then beat it with your hands. You should see the dirt & dust come off your rug as you do this.
- Spot Clean: Finally, you need to spot clean your rug. It's best to gravitate to dribble as soon as they appear because if they dry then it will be much tough for you to get the smell or stain out from your rug. As soon as the dribble occurs blot-up on your rug as much of liquid as possible, with the help of a paper towel or you can also use a clean rag. Once you've soaked up the spill on your rug then you need to dampen your rag and also use cold water to blot the stain again. Do not rub forth & back on the spill because you will end up rubbing the stain deeper into your oriental rug.
Method 2: Deep Cleaning
- Vacuum: Vacuum both sides of your rug. Simply bring your oriental rug outside to lay it out on a flat surface. Sweep & clean the area before you begin to start your rug cleaning process. Vacuum your rug until most of the debris & dirt are lifted from your rug and then flip it over to the other side & repeat the step. After the vacuuming process, shake your rug to remove any further debris or dirt.
- Garden Hose: Now you need to use your garden hose and spray your rug with cold water. Soak the entirety of your oriental rug on one side and then you need to flip it over and then spray the other side of your rug with water. You only have to do this for 4-5 minutes on each side for your oriental rug to become soaked with water.
- Fill Bucket: Fill your bucket with cold water and a bar of mild liquid soap. You can also use mild liquid detergent or dish soap to clean your oriental rug. Fill your bucket with one gallon of cold water and 3 tbsp of your mild soap. Mix your solution together in the bucket. You can also use a mild shampoo for your oriental rugs that are made from wool.
- Test The Solution: Now you need to test your solution by simply cleaning a small part of your rug. You can also use a long-haired brush or a non-shedding sponge to clean your rug. Simply dip your sponge or brush into the soap & water solution until it's soaked and delicately go over a small part of your oriental rug. Wait at least 10 minutes to see if your cleaning solution has a disadvantageous effect on it before proceeding to the next cleaning step.
- Clean: Clean the rest of your oriental rug. Froth your rug in the guidance of the nap, so that the rug fibers will lay down, disputed to sitting up. Froth your carpet enough to construct suds on the surface of your rug.
- Rinse: Simply rinse your rug with the help of your garden hose. Rinse the remainder of your cleaner off with the help of a garden hose. Once you've finished doing one side then flip your rug over & then rinse the other side of it. The suds on the top of your rug should be washed off comprehensively before drying.
- Make Your Rug Dry: Dry your oriental rug comprehensively. Wet rugs can easily build mildew over time & will create a bad odor. Once you've finished rinsing your rug, so it is important that you allow it to dry completely before putting your rug back to where it belongs. You need to use a squeegee to restraint the rest of the water out of your rug and then allow your oriental rug to dry flat on your ground. Also, remember to flip your rug over so that both sides of your rug can dry.
