Easy Ways To Get Rid Of The Oily Residue From Wood Furniture

Due to the reason that wood is porous, it soaks up the oil very quickly, which as a result leaves a nasty stain. Irrespective of the fact that you are dealing with cooking oil spills on floors as well as benches, or hand oil from repeated use of furniture and doors, getting rid of oil stain from wood is a challenging task. However, using a bit of elbow grease, and a few simple home remedies as well as techniques, it is comparatively easy to get rid of oil stains from wooden surfaces and furniture.

Way 1: Blot The Stain

First of all, you can try to blot the oily residue or stain on the wood surface with the help of a paper towel, washcloth, or sponge. Make sure not to apply too much pressure or you can try to wipe the oil stain as it will eventually result in spreading the oil. Also, you need to dampen the blot tool of your choice in order to soak a good amount of oil stain from the wood surface. This can sometimes be enough when you are looking to get rid of an oil stain if the stain is treated early enough. Apart from that, in order to deal with large stains, it has been recommended by the experts to use cat litter for soaking the excess grease.

Way 2: White Vinegar Solution

Another best way is to apply a white vinegar solution to the remaining oil stain. First, you need to prepare a solution by mixing white wine vinegar and warm water in equal parts. After that, it is important to soak a sponge or washcloth into the solution and then apply it to the stained area. It has been recommended by the experts to try wiping the oil stain off in circular motion without applying too much pressure. If required, you can perform the step several times in order to get the entire oil stain off the wood. Once the stain is removed, you need to dry the area with a clean washcloth or sponge.

Way 3: Dishwashing Liquid Solution

In case, the oil stain doesn't get removed with a White Vinegar Solution, then you can switch to another homemade cleaning solution, known as dishwashing liquid solution. First, you need to mix warm water and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle and shake the bottle well as long as the cleaning solution gets ready. After that, you need to spray the solution onto the oil stain and wait for 5 minutes as long as it gets soaked in. Once the solution is soaked, you need to clean the stain in circular motions by using a clean washcloth or sponge. If required, you can re-spray the stain several times in order to remove the oil stain completely. At last, allow the area to dry completely using a paper towel, washcloth, or sponge.
Note: If the oil stain still remains after following all the above ways, then it is necessary to switch to a professional wood cleaner.
