How To Clean Office Chair Wheels: Three Easy Parts

Three Easy Parts To Clean Office Chair Wheels

If you have a chair at your office whose wheels are not looking good and you want to clean its wheels, you can do so very easily, just follow different parts of the process carefully. Make sure not to skip any step of any part, doing so will not give you perfect result:

Part 1: Preparing The Chair For Cleaning

  • First of all, cover your floor before starting the cleaning process, protect your working area where you are going to clean your office chair wheels. Layout a sheet of plastic underneath the rolling office chair.
  • Now you need to turn your chair in upside down direction. It is very easier to work with the wheels of the chair when they are exalted & fully exposed.
  • Now you need to get rid of all the wheels. Most of the rolling desk chair wheels can be removed by simply pulling on them. However, some of the models require a wrench or a screwdriver in order to remove the wheels.

Part 2: Cleaning The Inside Of The Wheels

  • You first need to use your fingers in order to remove any visible debris and remove any small stickers, objects or larger pieces of debris that can easily be removed by your hand.
  • Next, use tools to help remove any stuck debris. If any type of debris seems stuck in the wheels then you need to grab a pair of tweezers to remove it.
  • You can also use duct tape to remove all the small pieces of debris. Simply cut a strip of duct tape so that it can be fit inside the wheel of your chair. Adjust the duct tape into your chair wheel so that the sticky tape can easily trap all small pieces of dirt. Once any dirt has attached to all the piece of duct tape, remove your tape from the chair wheel and discard it.
  • Vacuum your chair wheels by simply using a vacuum cleaner and capture any small pieces of debris or dirt that could not be picked up easily with the duct tape. Be sure that you are using a smaller vacuum attachment for the easier access of dirt and debris.

Part 3: Cleaning The Outside Of The Wheels

  • This is your first part of this process, you need to use a scrub brush in order to remove any debris. Scrub the outside area of your chair wheel with a strong scrub brush, you may also want to lightly soak your brush in soapy water.
  • You can also use a butter knife in order to remove stubborn stuck-on debris. Hold your knife so that it is parallel to your chair wheel. Slice in the direction that your wheel spins.
  • Soak your chair wheels in water as well as in soap. Allow your wheels to soak in a soapy water mixture for least 10-15 minutes. You can also use a brush to continue scrubbing them while they soak. It is necessary that you clean all the inside of your wheels & remove outer debris first before soaking them.
  • Now dry your chair wheels thoroughly. It is important to let your wheels dry wholly so that the moisture does not attract more debris & dirt. Dry them with a cloth or let them dry for a short period of time. You can also use a cotton swab to dry smaller areas that you are unable to reach with your cloth.
  • Finally reattach the wheels to the chair. Once the wheels have dried wholly, put your wheels back on your chair or re-attach the base by using the same tools which you used to unattach them. Finally, test whether your chair is rolling smoothly or not.
