How To Clean Kitchen Drawer Slides: 5 Simple & Easy Steps

5 Simple And Easy Steps To Clean Kitchen Drawer Slides

Like any other hardware, the drawer slide’s movement can lose smoothness after years of frequent use. But before the user can consider replacing the slides, the user can try these five steps to smooth the drawer’s movement. Follow all the steps carefully in order to achieve the desired result:
  1. Separate: Most of the drawer slides come with a lever or other mechanism that is used to remove a drawer from its cabinet position. The lever is used to separate the drawer member that is mounted on the drawer from an intermediate one connected to the cabinet member.
  2. Wipe The Slide’s Individual Members: Once the above step is done in which the user has to separate the slide members then the next step is to grab a dry cloth and wipe all the drawer member. After that, wipe all the cabinet and intermediate members as well. In order to get access to any dirt and grease that is on the raceway, move the ball retainer along either member. It is important to remember that the ball retainer may have sharp edges so be careful.
  3. Start Spraying: For this job use a water-based spray cleaner, they will help to loosen any kind of grease-borne debris that maybe build up on the ball retainer.
  4. Q-tip: Take a Q-tip then dab it in the grease of wheel bearing or universal joint and start applying along the slide’s raceways. The user should cycle the ball retainer in the back and forth direction, so that the grease will be spread all around.
  5. Refix: Now at last move the ball retainer of the cabinet slide members all the way in the forward direction, then carefully re-install the drawer.
