Ways To Clean Engineered Hardwood Floors
Engineered Hardwood Floors refer to a hardwood flooring having a genuine hardwood surface with underlying layers made of high-density fiberboard or plywood. In order to prevent engineered hardwood flooring from becoming permanently stained or scuffed, the user needs to clean it by following the below-given ways:
- Sweep With A Broom:
First, the user needs to sweep the engineered hardwood flooring with a broom on a daily basis in order to remove small stones and loose pieces of dirt from it. The soft-bristled broom is recommended for the step and the user needs to focus more on the areas that are likely to collect rocks and dirt e.g., the entryway and corners. - Vacuum The Flooring:
In case, the user doesn't want to use a broom for the cleaning or he wants to be double sure that the flooring is free of dirt, the user can switch to a vacuum cleaner. It has been recommended by the experts to set the vacuum cleaner on "hard floor" mode in order to disable its rotating bristle bar. The rotating bristle bar can damage the engineered hardwood flooring by causing scuffs and scratches on to it that may be irreversible. - Use Microfiber Mop:
Also, the user can clean the flooring with a dry microfiber mop making sure all the dust from the flooring is cleaned up. A dry microfiber mop can pick up such debris & dirt from the flooring which sometimes a broom can miss out. Using dry mop for cleaning prevents the flooring from water damages and it has been recommended to mop the flooring once a week. - Use A Slightly Damp Mop:
Alternate to dry microfiber moping, the user can mop the flooring with a traditional yarn mop that should be slightly damp. The user needs to wring out excess water from the mop before using it to clean the engineered hardwood flooring. In case, excess water remains on to the flooring after it has been mopped, the user needs to clean it with a towel. - Place Rug At The Entrance:
The experts recommend placing a rug at the entrance of the house in order to catch much of the grime, dust, and dirt that may otherwise be tacked on to the engineered hardwood flooring. - Using Liquid Cleaner:
In order to remove spills & stains from the engineered hardwood flooring, it has been recommended by the experts to use a liquid cleaner as per the manufacturer's recommendation because using a wrong cleaner can cause serious damages on to the hardwood flooring. The user needs to apply a liquid cleaner directly on to the spilled or stained area of the engineered flooring followed by cleaning it up with a clean cloth or a mop. The user needs to wipe down the surface until the entire stain is removed. If required, the user can apply extra cleaner on to the surface. Apart from that, using tile or vinyl flooring cleaner on to the engineered wood flooring can damage the flooring permanently. - Avoid Using Vinegar & Ammonia:
It has been recommended by the experts to avoid using vinegar & ammonia for cleaning engineered hardwood floors as they can damage the flooring rather than cleaning the flooring. Also, the user needs to wipe up accidental spills immediately from the engineered wood flooring because if the spills sit on the flooring for long, the spills can soak inside the flooring resulting in causing a permanent stain mark. Apart from that, an abrasive cleaning brush and a steam cleaner are never recommended to clean engineered hardwood flooring.
