Best Ways to Clean Dark Bamboo Floors

Bamboo is a type of flooring that is manufactured out of a bamboo plant. Bamboo is a popular & sustainable choice for flooring due to its beautiful appearance. If properly cared and cleaned, bamboo flooring can look at its best for years or even decades to come. The process of cleaning dark bamboo flooring is divided into two parts as mentioned below;

Clean Dust & Dirt:

The steps to clean dust & dirt from the bamboo flooring are as follows;
  1. Sweep Daily: For effective cleaning results, it is necessary to sweep clean the bamboo flooring daily with a soft-bristle or fine microfiber broom. It has been recommended to start sweeping from the ends and work towards the center in short & deliberate strokes. If the cleaning area is too large, it would be better to break the floor in several sections and clean each section separately as mentioned. The collected dust should be removed using a dustpan. Besides that, the user needs not to apply too much force while sweeping as he may end up scratching the bamboo.
  2. Mop Weekly: The user needs to mop clean bamboo flooring once every week to remove stubborn dirt & grime. It has been recommended to dampen the mop in the water and wring out excess liquid from it before mopping the bamboo flooring in circular patterns. If required, the user can put extra pressure on the mop in order to region grime & dirt. Alternatively, the user can dilute the manufacturer's recommended commercial cleaning product into water and mop the entire bamboo flooring with it. The user needs to avoid acid, vinegar, and ammonia-based cleaners over bamboo as they can discolor & damage the bamboo finish.
  3. Clean Spills Immediately: It is necessary to clean all types of spills immediately by using a microfiber cloth. First, the user needs to wipe down the spills with a dry microfiber cloth as it will remove most of the spill due to its high absorbency. After that, the user needs to get a fresh microfiber cloth and dampen it with water before wiping the remaining spill. It has been recommended to dry the cleaned spot with a dry towel.

Remove Stains & Dirt Build-up

The steps to remove stubborn dirt & stains are as follows;
  1. Use Cleaning Solution: Stains can be removed with the manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution & a damp cloth. First, the user needs to pour a few drops of cleaning solution over the stain and scrub the area gently with a damp cloth. The user needs not to apply too much pressure during scrubbing as he may end up damaging the finish. Oil-based cleaners should never be used over the bamboo flooring. Stains that are set should be buffed out before reapplying the finish.
  2. Remove Scuff Marks: Scuff marks should be removed from the bamboo flooring as soon as possible by using a rag along with a wood floor cleaner. First, the user needs to dilute the wood cleaner into the water as per the manufacturer's instructions and dip a soft rag into the solution before wipe down the scrub marks with it in circular motions. It is necessary to wring out excess moisture from the rag before wipe down. At last, the user needs to wipe dry the area with a clean dry rag.
